The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Been enjoying this phone but my colleagues say that it's slow for a 600Mhz phone. It's mostly noticeable when:
- at lock screen and you need to slide
- pressing the Applications icon to bring up the list
- scrolling through the applications list

I'm going to run some tests and then on the Orange stock ROM.

I get 400 to 420 on the standard Quadrant benchmark. Running Japanese Jellyfish release 9. I'll strip it down to the basics, run Quadrant again and then finally the stock Orange ROM to check. Battery was 100% this morning when I left for work. 1:15pm now and it's at 76%. I do have WiFi, 3G and brightness on full, but at this rate, it may not last the day. In comparison, my iPhone 4 had the same features enabled all day, including some music playback, and I would finish work and come home with still 40%.

Edit:
- Removed all the apps I've installed from the Market, except Quadrant and ran the test again. Score: 423
- Removed the Gingerbread theme I had on it. Score: 425
- Removed Japanese Jellyfish 2.2 custom ROM it and reloaded back the stock Orange TFT ROM. Score: 405
- Installed FLB-Froyo G2. Score: 384
- Tried Modaco ROM. Score:

The stock Orange ROM, and especially the stock application launcher, are slow.

First, get a decent Froyo ROM on the phone.
Second, get a decent app launcher installed (Launcherpro, ADW, Zeam, Go Launcher)

After that the phone is a lot nicer to use.

It is only a £90 phone. You pay a lot more if you want the latest high performance phone's...

I've been reading on the Modaco forums and it seems that with JJellyfish, something called Stagefright is disabled. Other ROMs do have it, and it seems to skew results from the 400s to 900s at least.

I'm quite happy with this phone, considering it's £99. I blame my colleagues for putting doubts into my head :p But as long as my phone is running as it should be, and my Quadrant scores are consistent with others, I am more than happy!

I'm using the latest JJellyfish ROM already, and using Launcher Pro Plus. But I'm going to revert back, and try a different ROM such as FLB-Froyo G2. I don't want to overclock or tweak it more for performance; just want to make sure nothing is wrong with my handset hardware-wise.

Shame we don't sell this handset at CPW, cos I would have got a 30% staff discount and it would be such a popular seller!

In 16 hrs mines at 94% (4129mv) most of that time sleeping, just a couple of minutes with the screen on.

Froyo makes it super snappy.

I guess I should have mentioned it again in my posts cos I already did in a previous one but it got lost in the many pages lol.

This was with running JJellyfish 2.2 custom ROM and Launcher Pro Plus already, but applications list was opening and scrolling laggy.

Anyways, I just got FLB-Froyo G2 on there, and no lag now when bringing up applications list. Scrolling left and right across home pages however are laggy compared to stock Orange and JJellyfish, and the keyboard layout isn't as good. Going to run Quadrant on this ROM and see what I get.

Edit: I get 384 on FLB-Froyo G2! Gonna Modaco next...

The links for:

es file explorer - tiny url.com/esfile
clock mod - tiny url.com/clockmd5

seem to be broken - does anyone have valid links?

I'm currently googling, but want to make sure I get the right thing

Work fine for me.

Are you using the standard orange browser as Opera wouldn't open some of them.
