The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

This is looking more and more like my new phone.
I can get about £70 for my HTC Magic, so it's going to be a cheap upgrade, even if it's not exactly a giant step up the mobile ladder!

ive set home page, still wont come up to google as ive set it. Stupid orange page keeps comming when say a vodafone sim is in. Weird, i`ll sort it, ta

If you are with Orange or know someone who is with them then you can get discount as well.

You could try phoning them up and just go for it and say, "My friend got £30 discount, can I get the same?" And hopefully they will do it for you. Has worked for quite a few people on HUKdeals.

Got mine for £78.99 including a £10 top-up, so £68.99 for the phone itself is pretty good imo!

EDIT:@wellibob: Have you changed the APN settings to go with your Vodafone sim?

I'd say so, if not just for the screen. Slightly better CPU, the only real downsides are the lack of Sense and directional controls, so it's just a question of what you care more about really.

Ah right. I guess that could be a pain editing emails etc. I'll have to have a think about it.
I can imagine, can someone with the device explain how you would move back in a text message to correct an error, bearing in mind I can't accurately do this without the optical track pad on my Desire. Thinking of picking this up for the Mrs, but there seem to be a few weird button choices on this.

In the iPhone you hold down your finger and it brings up a magnifying glass so you can slowly scroll along and pick a line of text.

I'd imagine there would be a similar system on Android, but I'm not sure.

Anyone?

Sorry if it's a stupid question but I'm not up on phone specs. :)

I have just bought a SanFran and am about to sell my Hero to my brother's girlfriend.

The 512mb ram is a revelation. Lots of my apps are in memory (instant task switching) and still 100mb free RAM. I have tried modaco, villainrom, froydvillain and never saw over 50mb free ram after I killed every app I could.

I am satisfied with it as superior for a £0 upgrade (maybe even make money if you get a good discount and sell the Hero on the bay).

As stated, the only real downsides are no Sense (but I've been getting used to launcher pro paid version which has lookalike widgets) and no trackball.

Got MMS working, had to reboot for the APN settings to kick in properly.

Has any one tried the Modaco r3 ROM? I'm still on the r2 and really happy with it to be honest, little bit unsure about the hardware acceleration in r3 as I saw someone say it lagged his launcher? I quite like the default launcher so not interested in changing.

R3 is meant to make the whole device a bit smoother, so I think it would be worth updating to it.

Don't think it lags in LauncherPro though, which is a much better experience than the default launcher.
