The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

My girlfriend lost my Desire last weekend :(:(:(

Can't really afford to buy another so I think I might buy one of these, will I get any discount being on an Orange contract already?

Unfortunately not. I had to dig out an old payg account to get one.

Got mine today, unlocked it, great phone for the money!

Can anyone recommend the best keyboard on the market for free, .. you know how it is, big sausage fingers.. :D

Can someone do a little test for me before I go and buy one.

Does wifi stay active while the screen is turned off/locked, ie does it still receive incoming mail etc (or voip ideally) when the phone is locked/screen turned off.

I know theres a setting to keep it on all the time in android but does it actually work, I've read that some phones seem to ignore the setting.

Thanks :)

When I lock mine and then unlock the wifi connection is gone and doesn't automatically come back.

I've noticed that if something is actually using my wifi connection when the screen locks, the connection stays open.

Got mine at the weekend, my first phone in 8 years - wow, a colour screen! I've always been a tech fan but just don't really use a phone much. But for £99 PayG I barely got to the end of the review before wanting to buy one!

Have to say I have not been dissapointed. It does everything I want and seems to work quickly (not that I can compare).

I'm going to have a read through the root/flash posts and might give that a go - seems straight forward enough.

  • Anyone know how to turn the camera shutter noise off?
  • Being new to android, are there any "must install" apps?
  • Where can I get a second USB cable - it's not quite the normal mini usb shape?

I think it is micro USB, so a standard micro USB cable should work.

It's not a standard micro-usb connector.

I got this phone last week.

Only issue I've had is that over £10 of credit disappeared whilst the phone sat there charging on Saturday. I checked and there wasn't anything downloading.

I had to turn off the 3G function in the end, now my credit has stayed the same for the past 3 days.....

I was going to call Orange customer services, but they won't do anything.

What benefit will I get from unlocking the phone?

I'm on orange pay as you go and don't intend to change it.

What is rooting exactly? does it allow you to remove the orange stuff from the phone?

Oooh, that sounds like the first flaw, a proprietary connector….

Is this definitely correct, as it's one of the real redeeming features of my HTC Magic?
