The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

No, but it is normal for "cheap" products. If a world class warranty service was a major factor for you, you should have gone with a more reputable mobile phone brand.

It's like complaining because a keyboard you bought from Poundland stopped working after 7 months. No one will give a toss. If you want a keyboard with a good warranty, you go with Logitech.

I'm sorry, so a £110 item is a disposable item in your world? If it stops doing what it was designed to do after a few months it should be thrown away and replaced without thought.

Jesus wept.

That isn't what I was saying. What I'm saying is that the Orange SF is an economy product, and as such one should not be surprised to find it comes with a matching economy warranty.

Moreover, ZTE has only recently expanded to Europe (compared to other leading manufacturers) so again, one should not be surprised if they need to send their ZTE product to a third party repair centre.

Additionally, HTC, Nokia, Sony Erriccsson etc., all have solid infrastructures in place to deal with warranty claims for UK customers, and have so for years. ZTE do not and one should not be surprised about this.

He didn't buy it from ZTE, he bought it from Orange.

Yeah he bought the phone from Orange, not ZTE. I'm sure the law would be on the buyers side here... Orange should replace/repair it at THEIR cost, no his. He has absolutely no contract with ZTE in the first place, only the seller. It doesn't matter if it's an "economy" product or not, whether the phone cost £10 or £1000, he would still have the same rights.

+1

UK Retail Law gives the buyer a minimum of 12 months warranty with the Retailer (Orange in this case), Orange cannot wriggle out of it, they can give a better warranty but not anything less!

Yea total joke! Orange wont touch it if its passed 6 months. These gits rob you £17 for postage i said to the women on the phone "cant i just post it you myself...." "NO"

Under EU law its under warranty from the manufacture ZTE. i must have tried ringing ZTE europe 10000 times they never once answered.

So i give in and sent it repairmob. Decent service to be fair in the end

Heya - I work for orange. Did you phone up 450/150 and talk to them about it first? After a period of time handset warranties are covered by the manu/3rd party (nokia/samsung et al use the same 3 agencies to repair the vast majority of phones for what it's worth) but I don't think the require a specific method of post - this sounds like they are trying to cheese you.

Space Monkey - companies have to provide a method for warranty work afaik, but I don't think it HAS to be them direct.

Yup rang numerous times and each time they passed me off to that repairmob company. The people on the phone stated that Orange only cover the phone for 6 months and after that Repairmob cover it.

Repairmob do the repair if its in warranty free. They just charge you £17 for postage and handling

It doesn't matter what Orange "policy" is with regards to the warranty after 6 months... they are REQUIRED BY LAW to provide a 12month warranty. No way can they get away with a £17 "handling" fee, whether it's being paid to Orange or being paid to a 3rd party. If they insist on sending it to the repair company then the £17 should be paid by Orange, NOT by you. It is up to them to sort the problem with no cost to yourself. Don't get fleeced.

That is my issue exactly.

I have no real problem dealing with a third-party as I don't believe they could be any worse than dealing direct with a retailer, and by all accounts Repairmob do a decent job.

The issue is that I work within a quarter mile of three Orange shops, and I see no reason why they can't pass the phone onto Repairmob themselves rather than point-blank refusing to get involved.

I agree i tried handing mine in to an orange shop in town and they refused it as well. I don't understand how orange can just claim no responsibility

Ok I'll ask here as there's likely more people who can say yes or no :)

I've just decided to grab a cheap san fran to tide me over till a new nexus or galaxy s with nfc comes out. Now when I've opened up the camera and am waiting for it to focus it seems to make a 'clinking' noise, a bit like two coins tapping together.

Is this normal or do I need to get it replaced as the camera's shot?

Normal I think, mine did that.
