The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

After a week of ownership and slowly improving battery life I charged it last night and it has only lost 4% battery in 12 hours whilst idle. Much better. Gaming really hammers it but I can get about 10-12 hours out of the battery with what i would call heavy use so quite happy.
 
When I go to sleep I switch off the Data Connection and set it to 2G Networks Only, which leaves me waking up with it still on 100% from when I charged it before I went to bed.

Purchased from someone on the MM, but have ordered from foofshop.com in the past directly. It does work out a bit pricey as you have to import from Oz, but they are nice. :)
 
I take it that majority of you use 2g network and not fire-Wire like I been trying.
Failed to connect with my fire-wire and it's only arms length from my mobile.
Must i configure my SF manually then ? if so, anyone know the settings for Tesco mobile internet. ? I tried until 6.00am this morning when it drove me nuts. Failed missserably.
If I can't connect to internet then what are my chances of configureing the rom..lol NILL!
All help for this duffer will be appreciated. THANKS.

When you talk about "fire-wire" do you mean the USB cable to charge the phone/connect it to your pc?

Or do you mean WiFi for internet access?

The SF is 3G so can use 2G and 3G data services, and of course WiFi if you are near an access point.
 
Just received my Orange SF, very impressed so far with the build quality and screen. I've just unlocked it but still need to root and install custom ROMs, etc.

Does anyone know where I can get the Windows Vista drivers from for this phone? When I plug the phone into my Vista PC it's asking for drivers and fails to find them. I read on the Modaco forums that it shouldn't need drivers, so I'm confused. :confused:

I'm on 64bit Win 7 and didn't need to install any additional drivers to what windows installed automatically. It does show some things haven't been installed when connected but none of these things are needed to root or for USB to storage.

I've got these showing up in device manager:

And it's a bit annoying when everytime I plug the phone in I get prompts to install the drivers.

Two hours later and I still haven't managed to install them... I've downloaded and installed SDK, downloaded the necessary Windows USB driver to the usb_driver directory but for some unknown reason Vista just won't recognise it.
I think I'll give up and just attempt to root without the drivers installed, very annoying. :(
 
I've caved and bought one. I haven't yet started modding it, but I have just bought a unlock code from the 'bay... however, I've just realised that that account is linked to my live email account that has been closed through lack of use... is this a big issue regarding getting the unlock code by email, or does said email arrive in my 'bay email inbox (which I obviously can access)?

The one I bought came through eBays own message service, so it should be okay.
 
Just ordered one to replace my SGS, couldn't resist the price differential, £79 outlay for the San Fran, and hopefully £250+ back for the SGS! :p

Yes I meant WiFi 'sorry' I have now sorted that out. Was up till 6.00am trying to connect to internet.
Managed to contact a younger friend of mine who talked me through it on phone. We discovered that when he gave me his old Wireless Router he gave me two extra digits for password on beginging of it. Once password was sorted I logged onto internet with no problems and downloaded two apps.

Off to Tesco after to get someone there to set it up for GSM coverage and fill in the APN.. I give up on it.

Drivers for SF--Not sure if it was in here somewhere but I was given link for them as I had wrong ones installed at first. When you find them, unzip to folder - open comp properties and manualy point to the drivers. Windows 7 is easier then XP. My xp refuses to install one driver.

Anyone had any luck with getting the £30 discount lately? I've a friend who is on Orange payg but after speaking to numerous salespersons, all they would do is offer to use some of his top extra top up funds and take that off :(.

Ah well, at £109.99 I guess it's still a bargain, might pick one up in store tomorrow.

It's been that popular that I think they not giving discounts no more, just a thought. They probably loosing a lot of money through discounts.
