The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Can't wait mine should arrive tomorrow before 10. Will be my first android phone so will probably have a few questions. Already ordered the android bot sticker for the back, decided to get a black one so will post a picture to show what that looks like. Also ordered and received a HTC desire slip case from ebay so pictures to show how that fits.

Think I'll have to get ad free on modaco so I can have a go in the kitchen.

What is the best rom to get? Got the phone couple weeks ago but havent got round to rooting and installing custom rom yet, just want to get rid of all the orange stuff and have the best android running possible :)

Im on 3 but using the standard skype and msn, not the 3 version ones so its just using my net bandwidth when I use them. I have 2GB but still would prefer to not have to use it :p

There is no standard msn app afaik. Only via three.
 
Well the official standard skype app is available through the market. But if on three, youre better off with their app as it avoids data allowance usage.

I think the R4 is the best so far, its apparantly a bit quicker too, will try and do the wifes tonight when I get in

Yep that app is endorsed by microsoft.

But there is no official msn app for the general android market. Your app will only work through a three connection.

iOS only recently got an official wlm app (microsoft didn't want to help apple), hopefully should see one on android soon.
 
Right, gone back to its roots and installed sebs r4 rom which is very much no frills but the phone is miles better than r3 was running. Will see how it goes for the next few days.

I found the same. Sebs r4 seemed much more snapper to me than Paul's r3, no idea on Paul's r4 though.
 
Im running Seb's Rom and it is pretty damn good,


I dont suffer from wifi drop outs like some have reported and was worried that flashing would maybe break that somehow.

Im glad to report it has not, so im pretty happy so far.
 
Cheers guys, i've only gone and bought this phone.

Little corker isn't it, only problem is android apps seem to take forever to download, and yet they still don't make a showing in my phone, what gives?!

This is using my wifi connection as well.

Can any of you, in laymans terms give me the gist of this phone to a total noob, im assuming win7 64 will need dedicated drivers, what about apps etc what's good, and say if i want my own touchscreen, im really hating the default orange one.

Just installed R4 modaco rom, everything seems ok and wifi seems to keep connection now, the only thing is I got an error trying to partition the sd card...... will look into that another time as it will probably need completely formatting.
 
Just wanted to update that now its went through a few charge cycles and is being given normal use (occasional browsing, APN etc switched off when not in use through extended controls) the battery life has greatly improved, still charge it every evening at least though although I could probably get at least 3 days out of a full charge if used conservatively (i.e as a phone, not a smartphone.)


Also, pulled it out after a lesson today to check the time quickly and a mate looked and commented on the screen, said it looked fantastic and dam expensive, just shows how good value for money this handset actually is!
 
just bought one of these for my Taiwanese girlfriend got a couple of questions, anyway to be able to text in mandarin on these either via a asian rom or other way .... as a lot of her mates don't speak English

Also how do you merge your gmail accounts with facebook accounts like on my samsung galaxy?

If anyone could help particular with the texting mandarin that would be awesome.
