The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

I hung around the Orange shop for ages today procrastinating about buying one and in the end didnt.... thinking it prudent to wait till they can be unlocked. Now I read this! lol

I'll be off down there again tomorrow!:D

Aparently the chinese version is running 2.2  just a matter of time lol.

I want a phone that i wont spend hours twiddling with :o.

Doe's that mean we can update it through normal mean's or do we have to hack it ourselves to get the update? Why didn't they just release 2.2 on it to start with,i mean it's not like it just came out it's been out for awhile now.

im not sure if its custom, or a factory rom, but id expect we will have to root then flash the rom.

I'm going to grab one of these at the weekend, best part is I've got about 4-5 old mobiles tucked away, a quick trip to cex to trade them in and i'll end up paying £40 or so for this, will use the nck unlock code straight away, i'll run it side by side with the gf's desire and report back

Can anyone comment on the battery life? does it last more than a day or is it iPhone esque, recharging every night type job?

Recharging every night. It has good standby time (2 or more days probably), but as soon as the phone is out of standby, it eats the battery. Yesterday and the day before, because of being new, it had very heavy use and struggled to last long. Today, much better.

12% left (note: the battery usage screen is ignoring a lot of apps for some reason, as well as the display which will be the biggest user)

Mate at work bought this yesterday. All rooted, Custom Romd and unlocked. he is using his T-Mobile Sim in it. So far its working great. For £100 (less if you use cashback sites) its a steal. Buy it now before the price increases

Even more tempted because Orange do loyalty discount. So its minus £20 and includes a top-up apparently! You need to be with Orange for more than 6 months to get it. Think you need to talk to CS about "upgrading".

Looking at those mobile phone cash-in sites, I can get up to £49 for my Nokia 6120c. Could probably get a bit more on eBay, but couldn't be bothered with the fees etc.

Can someone with the phone do a mini review? Interested to hear a first hand account of how these things stack up, against the HTC equivalents especially.

The demo video from "Conner at Orange" seemed like it was lagging a little bit when he changed between home screens and apps. Just wondering if the 600mhz CPU is up to task, more over if it's worth selling my 3G for a first foray into Androidland.

Think most of the lag is due to the Orange bloatware that is installed/running. It should be better once the custom rom is installed and running vanilla 2.1.

And of course if 2.2 gets up and running on this, then it will be flying!

Of course the MSM7227 is 'up to scratch', it's the same CPU as in the Legend and is superior to the one in the Hero. Graphics processing is on par with, if not better than, Snapdragon chips.

When you use a task killer and get rid of the horrible Orange launcher it should stop being 'laggy'.

only just seen this - seems a belter of an android phone for the money. OLED goodess for a 1er - great.

How much RAM does this thing have - is the screen limited to 65K colours?

Pretty sure it has a 512mb ram chip going by what I read, 424mb of which is "visible".

This is just from a quick skim through Modaco, so it may not be right!
