The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Ok so i have rooted it, I am trying to install the custom flash, I take it not as simple as dragging and dropping?

Pretty much is to be fair, I stuck it on my memory card and re-named it like he says, then booted it up and it flashed then I removed the image from my memory card and (finally) reset to factory settings. After all that I had a clean pretty much stock Android San Francisco.

Yeah I removed it when I was done, really cannot believe how simple the whole process was from unlocking the phone right through to the custom ROM!

Ah this phone is so much nicer without all the orange rubbish, its a shame I have lost MMS ability now though, but no biggy as the camera is rubbish, lol

If you add in the APN info for MMS it should work, granted I've neither sent or received an MMS to test it yet!

Does anyone know how long it will take for the battery to "wear in"?

Couldn't resist it any longer, popped into town and picked one of these up today.

Coming from an iPhone 3G, the first thing I noticed is how snappy and responsive it is in comparison. Secondly, the screen is very very nice as is the sound out of the speaker. No problems noted with either camera or video camera as previously mentioned by other people, works and plays back fine (video is a luxury after being on a 3G for 18+ months!).

The thing that has impressed me most, above the hardware is Android. Seriously polished, smooth and slick and the integration with GMail/contacts/Twitter etc.. is just mindblowingly cool! I love it, it shames push notifications all day long.

Further more, it's nice to have those things back that Apple sought to restrict. Custom ringtones without the ball ache, video recording, yadda yadda.

So in case you hadn't guessed by now, I'm seriously impressed with this little bargain phone and would heartily recommend to anyone. I would definitely say it's worth flashing to the MoDaCo ROM, it does improve performance a fair bit. The guides out there are simple to follow, and the unlock codes really do turn up within minutes as well. :)

Right, off to see if the sugar cube trick still works for removing Orange logos off the phone!

Adios 3G...

let us know about the sugar cube trick, thats one thing I'm curious over :)

Will do, just checked the cupboards and we're out of cubes though. Out to dinner tonight so might get lucky...

Anyone heard any news about possible Froyo on this?

Would like to have flash to be able to use iPlayer...

Following the thread on MoDaCo at the moment, some guy in China is getting instructions from one of the admins on how to dump the firmware but he's having err... technical difficulties. Personally I think it all sounds a little far fetched! There was a post about waiting for a Chinese carrier to release the update, once that's done the dev guys can start building it for our phone/language etc..

Worth following that thread for updates.

Picked one of these up this morning. The shop got a delivery in at 10am and I got the last one left 45 mins later.

Been working all afternoon so haven't really got to play yet, but I had it unlocked within 5 minutes of arriving home with it.

Have tried to buy one of these twice at my local Orange store and even though they have them in stock they have not been 'provisioned' whatever that means. Currently got an iPhone 2g and the lack of 3G is becoming a real pain, anyone know how the relative speed of each phone compares in general use?

It's posted like three times earlier in the thread, it's only 2 and a bit pages long, look back!

Yeah I Know theres links for unlocking earlier on the thread, im not stupid

The reason I asked for the link to the exact one cob used is cus he said it was done within 5 minutes, which suggests they were very quick sending the code through. since theres a couple of different links on this thread, I want to know which one to choose, otherwise I may have to wait 12 hrs to recieve it.. 5 minutes sounds good!

I used the Paypal option one from the first post at http://android.modaco.com/content/z...endly-alternative-unlock-hd-video-now-online/

Received the email within a few seconds of completing the Paypal checkout. Now I may have been very lucky, but it was very very quick. Trying to remember my Three sims pin number after booting the phone was the hard part.

Any way, I'm loving this phone.

Urgh, i really want to get one of these but i'd have to sell my i5700, looking around the recycling websites it seems like my only option is the bay considering i'd have a hard time letting it go for less than £80. Any other suggestions?
