The New Stargate Universe Thread

Like I said earlier, I'm liking the 2nd half of Season1. Great stuff and I would say its looking better than Stargate Atlantis did in its final 2 seasons.

The problem with showing the Star-builders, is that they would be so advanced that it would be difficult for the producers of the show to do justice. Imagine how difficult it would be to predict the technologies that Earhlings would possess in 100 years time...now try and predict what another race, capable of creating an entire star system, would possess/embody. It would be almost impossible.

The Mad Rapper, I presume you are talking about the episode "Human" which won't be aired over here until next week. The last episode to air was "Faith", the one where they land on the planet while Destiny does a lap around the sun. "Human" won't be airing over here until next Tuesday at 20:00 hours.

I was just wondering if I'd missed an episode too, darn spoilers :(

So did anyone actually stay on the planet?

From Mallozzis blog

Answers: 1. Yes. Kaine stayed behind with about a half dozen of his fellow crew members.

As to the identitiy of whom might have made the planet.

DasNdanger writes: “1. Was the question of how the planet came into existence purposely not answered to allow characters (and audiences) to draw their own conclusions?

2. Will the question ever be answered?

3. Will we learn the purpose of the beam?”

Answers: 1. Yep. 2 and 3 – You’ll have to wait and see…

If we were to presume that the Obelisk lighting up was a signal of some sort then it wouldn't exactly be beyond the realms of possibility that one of the builders would come and investigate possibly leading to the star builders getting in contact with Destiny.

My bad :(

Sorry, I keep forgetting that not everyone watches in the same way as me. Forgive me all :(

It is an amazing episode though - you'll enjoy it, spoiler aside.

Obelisk? What episode is that from? I am sure I saw that ages ago.

It's the episode where the Destiny has to drop out of FTL due to the appearance of a star not previously mapped and hence not accounted for. They also discover a near perfect planet nearby which they explore while Destiny performs it's month lap around the star. Before the end there is a minor conflict on the planet as some of the crew wish to stay behind including soldier sleeps around and doctor soldier (I still don't know many of the names).

Anyone else notice that the quality of the episode seems to be inversely proportional to the appearance of the communication stones? They haven't appeared for the last few episodes except fleetingly in "Divided" which is a welcome change from the first half.

I remember now. You are really going to enjoy the next episode, it's well emotional :)

It was mentioned on the gateworld podcast (by Darren I think) that he thought the planet might have been put there by some all powerful ascended beings for them to stay on - it did seem a little *too* perfect!

The conversation between Scott and Young at the end seems to allude to Matthews apparent belief that they were meant to have stayed there!

Probably just Scotts personal opinion rather than implying anything. Remember Scott was raised by a priest so the whole religious line of fate and influence from a higher power would have been going through his mind.

I reckon that planet and the obelisk will come back in some form or another, Mallozzi did cryptically hint at such and hes usually pretty good at giving bits of info out to the viewers.

I would also guess that the obelisk is some sort of transportation device by which they'll return to the planet next season or something ...

It was interesting seeing Johansen having to go back to the ship - you could see she really really didn't want to but seemingly did so for the good of everyone on-board Destiny!

Maybe it's just that I naturally identify with Eli, but there's no way I'd be opting to stay on that planet. Far too creepy - where were all the animals for example? Hope those scientists who did stay behind are happy being vegetarians lol. Something tells me the ones who stayed are in for a world of hurt anyway.

They really all should have gone back though, as Rush pointed out they can't afford to be dropping people off at every rock they encounter as, for the time being, they can't be replaced. It's a simple case of the needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few.
