The New Stargate Universe Thread

Except for the Wraith threat to the Pegasus Galaxy was never resolved nor was the new storyline of the renegade Asgard.

What? The drug they made with michaels help knocked out all the wraith apart from the one hive ship which they destroyed during the earth battle and then that's where Atlantis landed cloaked and the credits rolled....job done.

And from what I understand the Asgard 2 parter was exactly that ,a two parter and nothing more and from what I remember they destroyed the device that wiped out stargates which was the centre of those episodes...not really the asgard themselves (as they tell us why they are there and what they are doing in the second part of the 2parter)

Huh? The Wraith are still alive and kicking within the shows story/mythology with plenty of ships. All of the attempts to change the wraith on a large scale by removing their wraith bits failed with disastrous results. The Hoffan Drug (which poisoned the Wraith and is the one Michael got his hands on) was also discontinued, as it killed humans as well, so that couldn't be used as a weapon either.

The Hive Ship in the finale was a one off occurance. The Wraith as a species/adversary/faction are still going strong at the conclusion of the series.

The 2 Parter with the Asgard (Vanir) was resolved, in that they stopped them using the Attero Device/Stargate blower upper machine. The renegade asgard/vanir are still around though, as one of their ships escaped near the end of that 2 parter.

At the time they were expecting a sixth season, and i'd assume it would have picked up on what these renegades are up to now, unfortunately, the show was cancelled.

While the writers/producers of Atlantis managed to conclude on these little plot threads, it still ended with many questions of whats going to happen now? what are they going to do? what are the wraith/vanir/will Atlantis go back to Pegasus to continue to fight the Wraith, or leave them with a galaxy for the taking? whats the cookie monster up to? Not exactly a solid conclusion to the plot of the show as a whole.

I watched the Atlantis final last night. Season 5 episode 20.

I'm sorry but it was absolutely dreadful, seriously awful. Absolutely no tension, ridiculous plot lines, no drama, no sense anything was ever going to go wrong. It also seemed rushed and on a budget far too small. Did they run out of money and hire a bunch of retards to write the script?

Draw comparison to the last episode of season 1 of SG1 where Apophis attacks Earth. That episode had drama, you genuinely felt tension and fear. By contrast the Atlantis finale was absolutely pathetic and riddled with plot holes. I'm actually passionate at sharing how crap I thought it was because it angers me that such a great series (SG1) has been tarnished by these quite frankly god awful spinoffs series.

The producers have killed it because anyone who is not a hardcore fan would think they're watching trash, and that's exactly what has happened with SGU.

Also another thing that P's me off with the Stargate franchise.

What is this 'standard' thing in Sci-Fi programmes where ONE hit to ANY shield causes every computer within the ship to start exploding/sparking. It really annoys me, clichéd and boring. That shouldn't happen until the shield has failed.

yea shouldnt be any sound in space and probably no explosions either , shields are real to so we all know what happens when you shoot one with a high powered energy burst

For me, the first 3 seasons of SGA were fantastic. After that, most of the episodes were fairly ordinary. The one stand-out episode in the 4th season was Be All My Sins Remembered, where EVERYONE joins forces to attack the replicators.

That episode where John first meets Todd (the Wraith ally) and almost dies, until Todd gives John back his life-force. That was brilliant.

If you look at the finale of Season1 and Season2, for SGA...I think these were pretty special.

As far as SGU goes, the 2nd half of last season was fantastic and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The 2nd season has been pretty poor. The only interesting thing about this season was when Rush found the new control room and Chloe turning into an alien, but this has been drawn out into 12-odd episodes, by which time ratings and interest had waned.

when they found out there wasn't going to eb a season 5 i think Atlantis should have ended with Ronan dying where he died (and not being resurrected) and instead of Atlantis pulling a deux ex machina out of it's wormhole drive, just when they where about to blow it up nothing came and the other 4 stand there and blwo up the hive while they're onobard saving earth.

Then the ioa/military etc decide Atlantis is too much danger and the expedition recalled and the city completely destroyed with the SGC abandoning pegasus to the wraith.

The Siege 1-3 (Season 1 Finale/Season 2 Premiere), First Strike/Adrift/Lifeline (Season 3 Finale/Season 4 Premiere(s)) were some of the best stories imo.

The Season 4 Finale (The Last Man) and The Shrine (Season 5) were probably the two episodes that stand out for me in the last two seasons (besides BAMSR). David Hewlett did some fantastic acting in the latter.

The Last Man was very good.

I enjoyed the episodes when McKay was under serious pressure to come up with some idea which would save him and his crew.

i really hated the "mckay will solve it anyway" atlantis theme, nothing mattered cos you know 5 seconds from the end mckay would come up with something anyway.

I think one of the reasons Universe was so slow was that they were trying to get away from the instasolve guy stepping in to fix everything. Unfortunately they went a bit too far with it, especially since Stargate already established that the stargate program had all the best minds in the universe at it's disposal.

This thread is about SGU, keep it on topic please.

Has anyone got a link confirming the show has been canned? What happens to the remaining episodes from this season?

Don't see any harm in discussing other aspects of the franchise, it's all Stargate after all.

Syfy have pulled the plug on Universe and the remaining shows are to air some time next year

The Atlantis movie, which we were promised as a consolation prize instead of a sixth season (since they needed to pull Atlantis to make room for Universe) is shelved indefinitely.

Brad Wright has stated that he isn't given up hope yet on the series though

Indeed there may be a possibility of a Canadian network picking up the show but that's all rumours and hearsay right now.

Just watched SG-1's S01E17 "Solitude". It's the one where O'Neil and Carter are stranded in an ice cavern with a secondary gate on earth. I love this episode :D

Without this critical episode the whole SG Atlantis story arc could never have started!
