The New Stargate Universe Thread

Mgm still owns the franchise, can't see them selling it anytime soon.

Latest news was that a third season is completely out of the question, but some movies to provide an ending to the show is still a possibility, which Brad Wright is still trying to get off the ground.

Yes, but we heard the same for terminator: the sarah conor chronicles, and thats got nowhere fast.
Stargate movies made money, but only to the point of wrapping things up. This one doesn't have the base which is a damn shame, as the second half of S2 has been superb in what I've seen of it. Good drama, much less rubbish and decent scripting.

They tried to do a drama in space ala BSG. Which they failed at miserably but im watching it coz i heart stargate.

There is no current star trek and now after this ends no stargate.

I am not happy.

I actually think that the 'drama in space' storyline is quite interesting.

Yep.
Two problem sg fans where put off and non sg fans wouldn't of watched it.
I myself gave it a go despite not liking sg series and thought it was really good, although to much 1 episode, 1 problem. If they called it something else I think it would have done well.

^I've actually grown to like it now. Sure it was a (very) slow start, and a completely different mood, but I've got used to the slow pacing and the characters.
Besides, the musical themes are very good.

I reckon if they'd have just called it 'Universe' it would have made a difference imo. Then again, it didn't help 'Enterprise' much.

It's a shame it didn't get a third season. The second season has been shaping up to be much better than the last.

I watched a bit of last nights on SKy 1 and tbh didnt even remember how Destiny got into that situation. ILl have to catch a repeat soon.

I saw an original SG-1 the other day and it reminded me how good and sometimes funny the old stuff was.

Much more entertainign than the pepetual cliffhanger and moody stuff IMHO.

enterprise was still Star trek based. It would need to sever ties to get the benefits. Similar story no references to the SG universe.

The problem with the end of the season cliff hanger with SGU is that it gets resolved so quickly and easily...it almost makes the cliff hanger pointless.

Kind of a universal thing really. I can think of a few exceptions where a cliffhanger wasn't magically resolved in the next episode/season opener. The Season 5 and 6 finales of DS9 spring to mind, as well as the Season 9 ending of SG1 and Season 2 finale of BSG. I guess having the good guys get their asses kicked makes for a good cliffhanger.

I'll agree that most are pointless, let's face it if they put the main characters in mortal danger with no way out, and you know they've signed on for the next season, it kind of renders it all...pointless. But then you go with the flow i suppose.

Cliffhangers are only good when you know nobody is safe, such as BSG and LOST.

Lost had some pretty decent cliffhangers which needed quite a lot to sort out.

Also, there were some cliff hangers in Stargate SG1 (especially the one where Ori beat the alliance, leaving the alliance's ships in ruins).

With SGU, the cliffhangers get resolved so ridiculously easily/quickly...its almost as if there wasn't a cliffhanger/problem to resolve in the first place.

SPOILERS

That's the trouble, not many cliffhangers have a lasting effect. DS9 Season 5 they lost the station to the enemy, Season 6 one of the main characters died and the wormhole was closed. With SG1, they had one of their 304's destroyed. They all dealt a massive sucker punch to the good guys.

I thought the cliffhanger in season 1 of SGU where Rush was abandoned on the planet was great. It was a gutsy move so early on in the show, even though you knew it would be resolved.

Sad this is going...it really is a good show now. I almost didn't give it another chance after the poor pilot but glad I did.

Such a shame....perhaps if the pilot had been better they would have had a better run overall

I agree, and tbh I still think the S1 finale of BSG was the best way to leave any series hanging, I actually found it utterly unexpected, we all knew she was a cylon, and had behaved as a wonderful colonial, and then congratulatory handshake/BANG!

Superb storywriting.

I love SGU, I actually think it is the BEST of the Stargates by a mile.

Although I loved SG1 and Atlantis was okay.

This is different, it feels real and the acting is top notch which let us be honest is a first in Sci Fi.

I cant understand why people dont like it.
