Got mine now, tried it with next gen, and boy didn't it go stuttery... i hope this patch fixes it. I'm pretty sure my card is powerfull enough to run it on those settings :/

Just played up to puzzle thing where you move the crates and must say im impressed :) I had all the detail on with aa enabled and must say the graphics looked great playing in widescreen on my sammy 26" hdtv, very crisp and clear and surprisingly my 6800gt's in sli gave me a very playable framerate of around 60fps :)

I think I would prefer this for my 360 but very much doubt the 360 will look as good as it does on this pc demo, so far all 360 games have had no AA :(
but will the 360 have the next gen effects coz I know for sure my pc will melt with them turned on:confused: ?? Maybe ill have to wait for a 360 demo to be availble before i decide.

The demo is out on the 360 and it looks much better than the PC demo because it does include the nest gen content. In fact there'll be little to no difference at all between the 360 version and the PC running the next gen content apart from the fact you can ramp the resolution up a bit higher on the PC (if you can get acceptable frame rates). I had both the PC demo and the 360 demo running side by side yesterday so i could compare :) Im actually getting both versions as i found both really quite cheaply, so i'll be able to do a comparison of both full versions as well.

Haha i used to work for a large computer game chain store and we always used to get games a few days before they were supposed to be out. Many a time did i sell them before the actual release date. Never got in trouble though :)

Got a link for this post, I can't find it.

Site seems to be down as the link from the official UK game site no longer works. I am trying to remember the guys from Eidos's exact title - something like director of compatibility or something. Nice to see someone from a games company acknowledging that there is a problem.

how do you dive? that was a highlight of tomb raider. get to a really high place then press alt, shift n jump to do a nose dive into the concrete. makes a satisfying crunch sound :o

There is a way, I did it by accident once in the demo - straight into the ground just as you describe :)

I remember a highlight of the first Tomb Raider was having to jump off a waterfall into a lake in a cave. Doing the proper dive triggered a special camera angle which captured the full, er, brilliance of the dive.

That reminds me, the camera seems much smarter, for example when swinging to jump from on ledge to the one to its right, the camera moves both into focus so you can see where you are jumping. Much more cinematic.

Anyway its been dispatched, should be here by the time I get home from work tomorrow. Yay!

jump forwards, then just after, press duck/roll. also, keep hitting duck/roll and she does flikflak type things, hit down and use when you're at the top of a horizontal pole, in a handstand position. si cool.

I would like to map my USB-Playstation controller to be used with this demo.

Does anybody have the playstation control layout for this game so that I can set my pad up the same way?

Cheers.

Just plug it in and use the default config. It's set up same as the Playstation version. You dont have to change anything.

Received the full version yesterday and tried out the next gen settings and it makes such a difference. Goes from perfectly nice (not fantastic) looking game to something quiet special. Most noticeable differences are the water, the amount of bump mapping and what appear to be additional shader effects. The downside is a huge drop in frame rate. My pc is so called next gen (stupid term as next gen does not exist) and you will see the huge performance drop.

Standard
1600x1200 - everything enabled other than next gen - AA on - 16x Quality AF = 60 to 120 FPS

Next Gen
1280x960 - everything enabled - AA on (did not make a difference) - AF off = 18 to 56 FPS

I did not have the stuttering issue just low frames. I do really think it is an optimisation problem due to the poor porting of the additional effects to the PC, as a top end PC and 360 are similar in performance. There is not enough graphically going on to make a high spec PC crawl. Textures are not particularly high resolution and there is not a huge amount of detail and geometry going on by today’s standards.

Apart from this the game is a return to form and then some. Talking about form I have started the level where Laura is kitted out in a black cocktail dress - wow talk about the sexiest walk in the history of gaming.

Got my full copy yesteday and I'm absolutely loving it, this is one of the best games I've played in years, OK it may not be as p pretty or as "next gen" as some but they gameplay and storyline are A1 in IMHO.

Next gen enabled just kills my 4400 X2 + 7800GTX rig dead, the framerate is too low to enjoy so I'm hoping the patch will help with FR issue.

Demo runs fine on my rig @ 1920x1200 with fsaa, looks stunning. Good old-fashioned playability.

Agreed, runs great @ that res with NG off.
