The Newcastle United Club Thread **No Spoilers**

Newcastle fans will do well to keep their expectations reasonably low for the first couple of years!

They've hired better bar staff so the queues for pints before the game\at half time have reduced. And they've cleaned the windows. I'm pretty happy so far. :p.

I'll take improved facilities and first team investment commensurate with a club of our support\commercial strength. That's basically it.

Ah well it's a start. Mighty oaks and acorns and all that!

Big managerial move in the North East today with Newcastle appointing Elliot Dickman in charge of the thoroughly rotten U23 side after leading Sunderland's U23 thoroughly rotten U23 side for the past 4 years :D

Interesting appointment as he struggled at Arsenal, but has done extremely well otherwise.

What's the plan for a director of football? Equally important.

Report suggested he wasn't happy they leaked their interest on day of Champions League game for Villareal, and didn't see how they ended up with a shortlist of him and Eddie Howe if they have a clear vision of what they want, given the differences in their playing style.

It did seem like a weird step down for him. I can understand maybe in 2-3 years when they're at least stable in the upper half.

I agree.

Also looks bad now if they go for Howe again, him knowing he was an obvious second choice between the two.

Relegation isn't a certainty for Newcastle by any means, but it depends on the right manager and good signings in January. Extremely difficult.

Currently we’re certain to go down and the wrong appointment will reinforce that

I rate Howe very highly and think he could be a good option on a 2.5 year deal, as if Newcastle go down he can then start the building process (players chosen by DOF or whatever not him), get them back into the prem with a better squad and then be fired to bring in a big name.
If he keeps them up it just accelerates things a bit, makes it easier to attract players in the summer. give him next season and then line up a new guy to take over summer 2023.

This approach avoids the potential issues from blowing their load too early by bringing in a big name who has to try and navigate the championship with an average squad and wants to fritter away their riches on marquee signings that don't really fit in with the Tuesday nights in Stoke.
