**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

I've done a fresh install on the PC in my sig, and every time I install the NVIDIA driver, Windows decides it can't be bothered to run properly.

I've installed the latest driver 353.06 twice and the driver that was recommended through Windows update, and each time I get as far as the desktop Windows wallpaper but no icons, start bar or task bar. Ctrl-alt-del just brings up a black screen and I have to go into safe mode and uninstall all NVIDIA stuff for Windows to load properly.

I used driver sweeper to remove everything so I have no idea what is going on.

Is this a hardware issue or just really dodgy drivers? I'll try an older driver set but I'm pretty sure it'll be the same.

Are you installing via Windows Update? I've read that's not a good idea, if you are.

Have to say, for reference, the 353.06 set have been excellent for me.

The 353.06 installs were straight from the NVIDIA site. I'm trying the 350.12, which were rock solid.

Interestingly, the 353.06 driver hadn't been installed on this machine before but I don't usually have driver issues.

So another week gone by, and still no driver release that fixes these massive problems.

I'm starting to have concerns they may have a real problem on their hands. If it was a simple fix, NV are normally very good at rolling out a hot fix.

Doesn't make sense. The problems didn't exist on previous drivers which means it's a change they made at software level that caused it.

At the very worst, all you need to do is roll back to the last driver that worked.

I've rolled back to 347.88 now. Brilliant drivers, and my Gsync light works properly on the swift again!
I was only using the latest ones for SLI in the Witcher 3. But seeing as it stutters like hell with 2 cards and Gsync, for very little frame rate gain, I've gone back to one card anyway. So no loss really

Yep, I did the same as far as SLI is concerned. I might actually roll back to that driver just to get the Swifts light working properly if nothing else!

That light is a good example actually. We pay £1000's for the tech and a simple fix like that is taking months. Very frustrating.

String - do you find that SLI stutters horribly in Witcher 3 with Gsync??? I don't see many people complaining about it. For me it is shocking, but smooth as silk on one card (like a few other games with similar issues unfortunately)

I had a semi workaround as follows - set the swift to 60hz manually once you load the game, and use a framerate limiter set at 59. This is smooth as silk in SLI but ONLY if you can maintain 59 fps. Any dips under this and it stutters like buggery.

I use the same technique for GTA 5, however any dips under 59 don't cause stutter so it's great. Doing this trick makes GTA5 so so smooth with SLI and Gsync. It's 'OK' without doing this trick and running at 120hz, and many people probably wouldn't notice the slight stutters.( It's waaaaay less stuttery than the Witcher 3). But I'm very sensitive to any stutter whatsoever.

Best driver for Gsync and Rog Swift users.

Tried them all and keep going back to that driver! very stable and monitor works as designed.

Can someone do me a MAHOOSIVE favour please ?

It involves making a 1 minute video with Shadowplay of any game with audio, Upload the raw footage to YouTube and see if it has intermittent audio stutter, Just need to see if it's on my side of things or the software.

I've recorded game footage with Mirillis and Fraps so far and neither get this intermittent audio stutter, Only Shadowplay :(

FFS

does anybody know how to stop Geforce Experiance updating to the new version?

I am so annoyed with all the updates that break my GTA game.

I have been using it for 11 days, no crashes. I used it for 15 hours on the new GTA patch, no crashes. Then yesterday, Gforce experience decided to update.

I do not have auto update, tell me when a new driver is available, noting ticked. Yet it downloads and I have to install it.

Since then I can not play for more than half an hour without the same crash as before. Shadow play stops, the voltage and GPU drop and the game crashes.

I just want to keep the old version that worked.

Uninstall GeForce Experience?

Funny how we all differ, as I love ShadowPlay and it is far superior to my dedicated capture card. I don't bother with anything else on GE but a few peeps like how it sets the best options for your hardware (and does a good job by all accounts).

Yeah.... cheers for that....

Shadow play is great for capturing game footage and also desktop, so each to his own, eh...

Also it was keeping my GTA from crashing..... until yesterday, hence my question.

Ok put a couple of clips up for you, first one is around a minute long and the second about 5 mins.

Didn't get any audio stutter so not sure what is wrong with yours.

I was having a stuttering issue with these drivers that seems to have disappeared upon rolling back to 344.16. Touch wood, the issue has been resolved. Prior to rolling back, I cleared my OC on the CPU/GPU and also tried turning SLI off.

It would freeze for half a second with a sound loop when any game first started up and would do this intermittently for two minutes - anybody else had this?
