**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Nvidia Geforce 378.78 drivers

Game Ready Drivers provide the best possible gaming experience for all major new releases, including Virtual Reality games. Prior to a new title launching, our driver team is working up until the last minute to ensure every performance tweak and bug fix is included for the best gameplay on day-1.

Fair bump in hitman and ashes though a bit late - but does suggest they are cracking the shortcomings in regard to that type of DX12 usage - not really surprising stuff like BF4 sees little difference.

Anand seem to be saying that these games had already seen speed bumps since release so they are not really saying it's this driver that gave the % increase. There will need to be a before and after driver test to see if there is any gains in the new driver.

But because of NVIDIA’s talk of driver performance gains, I’ve already seen some confusion here over whether the GTX 1080 Ti launch driver (378.78) is a special performance driver or not. For the record, it is not.

So in short this is probably not the driver Nvidia was talking about.

(Regarding these being or not being DX12 performance drivers)

It says so in the release notes.

"Gaming Technology

Nvidia article. Says A) Released and B) working on Vulkan too.

So nvidia still aren't gaining anything from dx 12 then? If so, looks like this settles whether they have proper dx 12 support or not then... It shouldn't take this long to get dx 12 optimisation drivers out especially when people say that nvidia get the very best performance from day 1 with their drivers and work closely with all developers...

They really should do the test on a weaker/older CPU though as that is where the biggest improvement for dx 12 is.

Ah 2 titles that I have zero interest in so not followed performance of.

DirectX 12 Performance Optimizations

Game Ready drivers not only deliver the best out of the box game experience for the biggest AAA PC games, but they also continue to improve their performance over time with new optimizations and improvements released via new Game Ready drivers. Furthermore, we work tirelessly to optimize APIs, and work closely with developers to create and integrate app-side optimizations.

Today, our new Game Ready drivers introduce a raft of DirectX 12 optimizations that improve performance in Gears of War 4, Hitman, Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Division, and other games.

As a result, performance has increased by 33% in Rise of the Tomb Raider, 23% in Hitman, and by an average of 16% across the five most popular DirectX 12 titles.

Anand used them and reported no increases since launch in Rise of the Tomb Raider. I wonder if they used Dx11 or 12 though.

As was the case with NVIDIA’s data, the performance gains vary from game to game. Some games have not budged, whereas others like Hitman have improved significantly, and outlier The Division has actually regressed a bit due to some major updates that have happened to the game in the same time period. But at the end of the day, these are performance gains that have accumulated over the months and are already available in the latest drivers from NVIDIA.
