**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

I have not had any issues with nvidia gaming drivers since getting my 3080, usually always update when available but have now switched to studio just because of @mrk :p :D Don't really play any must have games on day 1.

No different for gaming having been back and forth. Studio drivers undergo extensive testing and certifying because they are geared for production systems and applications with the same game optimisations for the matching version numbers. Stability is basically guaranteed with the studio drivers. Sometimes the game ready and studio release at the same time, but usually studio is a version behind for several weeks.

Good to know, thanks, i'll give them a go :)

Never heard of these, and it doesn;t show up on GeForce Experience driver checker!

Vulkan is a new-generation graphics and compute API for high-efficiency, cross-platform access to GPUs. As the industry’s only open standard modern GPU API, Vulkan is unique in enabling developers to write applications that are portable to multiple diverse platforms. Vulkan includes the latest graphics technologies including ray tracing and is integrated into NVIDIA’s production drivers for NVIDIA GeForce, RTX and Quadro solutions on Windows and Linux, NVIDIA Shield and the Jetson embedded computing platform using Android or Linux.

Vulkan is an open, royalty-free API for high-efficiency, cross-platform access to modern GPUs, with widespread adoption in leading engines, cutting-edge games, and demanding applications. Vulkan is supported in a diverse range of devices from Windows and Linux PCs, consoles, and the cloud, to mobile phones and embedded platforms

Bit like Studio drivers, but more geared towards gaming and gaming development :)

Lol I know what vulkan is I prefer it to direct x in games that have both. I just didn't know Nvidia did a vulkan centred driver and with no notes on how it affects production apps, I won't be installing when the studio driver exists!

Vulkan replaces DX12 in Linux, for example if in Unreal Engine you make your game in DX12 and build it for Linux it will run on Vulkan on that platform.

Vulkan is also used as a conversion layer (DXVK) for games that run natively as DX, layers like Proton, developed by Valve use it primarily for the Steam Deck, tho the same thing runs on most Linux platforms.

Vulkan in terms of hardware efficiency is better than DX12, to such an extent that even games that are native DX12 converted to DXVK often run better than they do in native DX12.

I think what Nvidia understand is that Vulkan is a very good API for getting the most out of limited hardware, it has a future, its far better than anything Microsoft in hand-held gaming, not just like the Steam Deck but also phones and tablets.
