****The Official 5G Home Broadband Thread**** (Three/EE/Vodafone/etc)

Interesting @Journey so ASDA piggy off EE? I may check them out then on the data SIM only.

Yes ASDA is an MVNO using the EE network, they do various speed tariffs however, so not suitable for everyone, though the higher end one doesn't seem to be capped presently on 4G only 5G.

Edit: Ignore me, sorry I forgot they moved to Vodafone...

Neither of my two Hauweii routers are Wifi 6 but with the B818 being the flagship router, I expected its wifi to be at least as good as the midrange b535 router sadly.

I had never heard it mentioned in any review either.

The b535 pumps out a stronger signal than the latest BT router that I had for the FTTC and I always thought the wifi was decent on the BT router tbh.

Yeah, I edited it, they moved it across recently. :(

Its the strongest network where I am I think which is why my ears pricked up! Then dont drop below £30 for regular customers AFAIK for unlimited which is why it would have been a handy alternative. :(

The B818 is great even if it does miss Wi-Fi 6 though, got to be one of the very best affordable 4G routers out there, with option to add external antenna(s) easily.

You could always just pick up a cheap booster/repeater on eBay etc. You see loads of people flogging off BT whole home Wi-Fi packages, and similar things. I guess if the B818 impairs your usage it would be worth doing.

Yeah Talk Home is the only other one I know of that works and does a good deal on Unlimited Data, but I believe they are still restricting it to 4G. They do deals often though, so you can usually get it for sub £20 per month over all. They do have a cap and rubbish FUP though, so not worth it really.

They have been doing lots of maintenance last year on the masts so I am hoping at some point in 2022 one of the networks will offer good speeds on 4G where I am @Journey !

Its a great router but why on earth did they put worse wifi in it than their mid range 4g router?

I have a BT router disc. Can I get this to work on my Huaweii? I thought it might be locked to the BT router

TCL LINKHUB HH500E 5G

Hi, I’ve just taken delivery of this router, out of the box it was giving around 150mbps down and 5 - 8 up with a EE sim, the mast connection was showing as band 1 when checked on Cellmapper.
I currently also have a Huawei 535 333 and I get around 120 - 150mbps down and 5-8 up on EE, I connect to band 7 on mast 15748, 4g+ And CA as shown on LTE Manager app.
So my question is can I self select the band I want to use on the TCL? And if so how do I do it, thanks.

From memory I don't think you can change the bands with the TCL router. I dug out an old email when I returned my unit (due to a fault) and in it I mention how disappointing / limiting the interface was. But login to the web interface and see if you can see anything, never know, a new firmware could have changed things since.

well after extensive testing I think I am settled on EE.

My only issue now is which router to keep.

The B535 has superb wifi throughout the house from the loft and even two floors down in the lounge its still 5 bars.

The B818 has much weaker wifi (which surprised me, even stood 1m away from both routers my wifi analysis shows the signal from the b535 is 10db to 20db stronger.

But the B818 gives better download speeds from the mast than the B535 does.

Such a pain. I really want to keep the B818 but if I do I might have to use it as a bridge to another router for the wifi so more costs :(

On the other hand 3 bars in the lounge is good enough for 170Mbps connection speeds and since my internet in isnt higher than that then it shouldnt be a problem.

Good choice.

With regards to your Router dilema, if this NR7101 works as well as I'm hoping for I'd have the NR5101 for sale. You'd be welcome to try it out - saying as your close to where I am in the country. :)

Thanks for that offer, my issue is doesnt the NRR501 only uses external aerials for 5g boost and not 4g?
