** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

lol.. alpha dog edition, that sounds so ghey (justin timberlake edition ;) ) :p

Anyone actually have or swapped to these cards from a GTX, and with overclocking actually got BETTER performance?

Matthew

I never thought I'd say this but these are for sure very sexy graphics card ^_^

mrk, what's wrong with you?!

NO graphics card could ever be described as being sexy, unless you have a very strange perversion.... ???

They do look very neatly packaged, I'll give you that.

Some people spend their whole life waiting on things, this the best card out now and that's a fact, forget your GTX or ULTRA's, the GT is the one, the new GTS maybe a wee bit better but not much, GT F T W.

Just run Crisis everything high no AA under XP E6600 @ 3.6 - 745/2100/1863

@ 1920x1200

Min 23
Average 28
Max 32

@1680x1080

Min 25
Average 35
Max 41

1920x1200 feels silky smooth suprised by the low numbers. Feels faster when playing.

Interesting difference between our score fornowagain. Quads don't seem to benifit very much at all.

What a beast of a card tbh, if I knew this was coming out I would have kept me GTS and then moved to this, more than happy with this and guess I will be even happier with this in XP!.

I'll continue to test 730/1000 clocks possibly up the memory to 1100, is overclocking the shader clock as safe as anything else? I've never overclocked shader clocks mainly because when I had a GTS shader clocks were not overclockable at the time.

I tried Lost Planet, shadow quality and res on medium, everything else on high, 1680x1050, 8xCXAA or w/e it is??, 8xAA or 16x cant remember, was smooth as, around 50fps a lot of the time in DX9, DX10 was around 30-40, dropped to 26 sometimes but still aint bad tbh, must be a change seeing posts from me been this happy with a card for a while lol eh? that 2900 I was very angry with, the guy who got it off me emailed me saying it wasent working, turned out he wasent giving it enough power :P.

I have a 24" Dell screen and don't mind waiting a couple of weeks, so I'll wait and see I think.
Hopefully the new GTS will be worth waiting for!

Best thing tbh doubt the GT will be that good for 24" res, 1680x1050 and I'm happier than with my GTS at 1440x900.

Any definitive verdict on fan noise yet? I'm hoping someone with a silent rig can confirm how noisy / quiet these things really are, under load and not under load.

It is 100% silent!, even when overclocked, I'm more than surprised, when I put the card in I was like wtf? that HSF manage to cool this? its like 1cm thick!?!?!?, but its doing a fine job, a nice 50 degrees idle, cooler than my GTS that is :D.

Asgard you got 100% stable with that 745/2100 clock? Also easy overclocking the shaders?

Finally able to have my PC back on my desk now :D.

Fan is silent at stock but i have set mine to 70% " still not noisy" in games, best to keep it cool, especially with clocks that i have on mine, temps never go above 75c.

Shaders change automatically with Rivatuner. 100% stable with looping crisis and 3D mark 06

Oh nice, but cant you manually adjust shaders? Have they always changed automatically or is it since they introduced manual shader overclocking into it?

Do you have your speakers loud? the only problem about this fan is if you turn it up and end up hearing it its awfull, little 60mm fan whine, great that its silent, door is always open downstairs so a nice chilling draft comes up and as my PC is on the floor at the moment ir runs really cool as I also have the side of the case off.

Not sure, I suspect it's being done automatically in the driver??

Just Dial in the clocks and see what happens.

I really do feel these cards are being help back by lack of voltage. I'm sure they will become screamers with a voltage mod.
