** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Have searched and searched in the bios for where i can check this but just can't find it. Could be because this feature doesn't exist in my crappy P5NSLI?

Does anyone know if x16@x16 actually makes any difference compared to x16@x8?

Well I had (like an idiot) my 8800GT in my x4 slot, before realising and putting it into the x16 slot. The difference went from games being totally unplayable, to running smoother than a baby's bottom. :D

Mine squeals like piggy in deliverance :p don't bother me as i have my headset on, had same sound from many a mobo and some ATI cards, nothing to worry about.

Mine doesn't make a sound apart from when the fan spins up when you turn the PC on. Great card. Mine's an Inno3D. Bargain. Tried crysis last night, good game, had everything on high, 4xAA and gave me over 30fps.

jeebus

mine is 82C when playing COD4

Small frying pan and get an egg or two in there for gods sake man . Just pause the game and flip them over (careful and not break the yolk!) :p. Saves running to the kitchen anyway.

I wouldn't worry though. These cards are just toasty.

Backing up the recommendations for the Arctic-Cooling Accelero S1 here.

Card idles in the low 30s, peaks in low-mid 40s and is allowing for an easy 760MHz on the core in my case.

Very suprising given the light weight, simple construction, low price (£12ish) and easy fitting.

Be aware you'll want to have a few other RAM/PLL sinks handy for use on the power-stange components though.

Not enough love in here for the Accelero Turbo Module fans either.
£6ish for a very convenient & quiet solution - shown in a review to be more effective than a low-speed 120mm fan when paired with the Accelero too.

A guy called Johnny Guru(or whatever) started the rumour.

It's not actually the memory that fails but the memory bus(probably something like a CPU memory controller) that connects it to the GPU.
