** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

ah thx:) didnt notice it had fan settings...!

Right just tried crysis at my stock fan speeds and yea it was on 25% fan @ 700/2000/1750 and the temp was going to 88 degrees. I've set fan speed to 50% now and i can hear it a little more but certainly not so it'd bother me and its now 78 degrees max so that'll do me nicely.

Use fan profiles mate. there is a nice tutorial on how to create them, and its so easy ( I could do it and I am kinda new to useing advanced rivatuner)

also, once you have done it, reboot pc to get it to work, and rivatuner has to stay open, don't close it afterwards.

Picked up my Sparkle 8800 GT 512mb yesterday from one of the few places in the UK with stock (which happened to be about a mile from my home luckily). What an awesome card. I can now run Bioshock in 1680*1050 native res and liquid smooth, which my GTS 320mb could not. GOW running great too, never drops below 60 fps. Definitely another 20% framerate in Crysis too, but probably not enough to allow higher resolution/settings (still got to do some more testing on this since I realized afterwards I had v-sync/tripple buffering forced on). Still looks like I'll be playing it in 1280*800 on high since I don't like mediocre framerates in shooters (it kills the gameplay IMO).

Ran ATI Tool artifact scanner for half an hour and got to 88 degrees (versus about 74 on the GTS) in a well cooled case. Tempted to put a VF900 on there. It's not like the card puts out a lot of heat, more that the tiny fan shift so little air. With the same cooler as the GTS this card would run at 55-60 degrees max under load. Plus the startup noise is a bit annoying (especially since I've got a P35 board that does a 'double take' boot-up). It would also surely overclock better with a better cooler.

Great card though :) I would even recommend it to GTS owners (esp 320mb) given the used prices on the bay for the GTS.
