** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

There's nothing wrong with the cooler people just don't turn the fan up.
I'm sure if you did that it would be louder than a VF900 on minimum. The stock fan is small and shallow, it's not going to shift any serious heat.

Modest overclock - core 656 mem 946 - max temp recorded by ATI tool while running Crysis was 58 degrees. Any suggestions for how much further I should push the clocks anyone?

Just found somewhere with the damn things in stock. Ordered a Zotac OC version for a very good price and will have it tomorrow. This things going under water too!!

Was waiting for the outcome of the 3870's but it does'nt look like it's going to be any better than the 2900 and i've been cardless for nearly two weeks so just went for it. Finally be able to see what this rig can do. :D:D

You'll be happy with your card, I hope you get a good overclocker, will be awsome in that rig :D.

I hope so. I really don't know what this thing can do. I upgraded the mobo because my 965P DS3P was holding my quad back to 3.2ghz with some strange happenings. When i fitted the X38 i went to power up and the 700w OCZ GameXstream was dead, only three months old too!! Got a full refund though. Then the 8800GT was due to come out so i sold my 320MB GTS on the bay for a good price :D . Since then i have been deciding on what psu to get before settling on this Zalman beastie and waiting to see 8800GT's in stock anywhere. I found loads this morning and pounced. Everything (well, NB, CPU and GPU) is watercooled with a rad mounted in a window. It's bloody freezing up here so temps will not be a problem. :D:D

I just got word that mine shipped today, so I should have it tomorrow.

Any idea if removing the heatsink to re-apply some better thermal paste is easy to do?

Can't really shell out for an aftermarket cooler at the mo.

should be easy enough just unscrew the retaining screws from the bottom, remove and re-paste.

my accelero S1 is sitting with a lack of GT to fit it too... still... nooooo

It's easy to do just take a bit of time as there are quite a few screws at the back. I did it with my previous inno3D (now borked and RMAed) and it didn't make too much of a differnece to temp so I didn't bother with this one. The stock thermal pad is fairly decent.

Anyone tried a bios volt mod on one of these yet? From a search around the net, it seems that it does seem to be working to a degree.

Just though would see if others here had tried it before I have a go.

I can currently get about 740 core stable, and 1800 on shaders. Still a little hesitant to OC memory after reading that it might bork the cards.

Would be nice to get a little more out of it. Either 750/2000 or 800/1800, but I am not going to do a hard mod.

Just ordered an S1, but see that the ramsinks supplied are pants.

How many would I need? I might get a pack of Zalman ones.

Nothing wrong with the Ram sinks supplied with the S1, the problem is the Tape used on them is pants, you need to get some thermal tape (to replace the Tape on the S1 sinks)and 1 extra set of sinks, then you will have some spare.

Would a 1" x 6" strip of thermal tape be enough?

I've always used arctic silver thermal adhesive for ram sinks, if mixed 1/3 of each of two adhesives and 1/3 as5 they are easily removed at a later date :)

On another note are there any waterblocks out yet for the 8800GT?

Just got my 8800 GT at work now! :D

I bought competitor own brand, and it turned out to be an Inno3D... that any good?

Got a free copy of Tomb Raider Anniversary though, hehe

Just got my block fitted & back up & running

Stock cooler really is a poor effort from nvidia on these GTs,the fan was doing my head in,even running at 40%,i do like my peace & quiet

Finally !! Silence & low temps Don't ask what i was up to with the barbs though:confused:

Seems to be stable @ 760(600 stock)core-1850(1500 stock)Shaders & 2000(1800 stock)memory, not really had time to find the max core or memory yet though

Quick pass of 3D mark 06 was 13238

Temps are idling @ 33C & round about 40C under load. Bit of a difference from the stock air cooling Idle-55C Load-90C:eek:

Now to see if i can squeeze anymore out of it

Oh dear, whats those big lump of marshmellow! :D

hopefully I will get some time to remove the stock heatsink this weekend, looking forward to seeing that mess.

How did you attach your ramsinks, I remember using similar looking ones in the past back in the 9800Pro days, chunky bits of copper nice!

Good job btw, look forward to your final clocks as I have the same Inno card (quite a few folk do here actually. were such cheapskates;))

Aye a big difference there, I had similar worrries when I saw my card reaching 95°C using the stock cooling on auto :o

Does the PCB get hot at all now your core is uber cool?
