** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Couple of quick questions,

Why is Riva showing me this at startup?

What is this extra stuff that u can install? is it worth using either of them (or both?).

Why is there no shader clock options in Rivatuner? I'm using 169.02_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_whql and riva v2.06?

Thanks in advance! :)

Not sure if BIOS flashes are going to do anything for you, certainly the other 8800 cards just have one selectable voltage and from what I've read about the missing 3rd phase power system these cards are no different.

I think the shader can be clocked seperately under vista, in xp it just synched with the core speed (25mhz increase for every 10mhz increase in core).

Jokester where you been recently btw? not seen u post for a while?

now that your here can I tap your grey matter please! ;)

Do u know what any of this jargon means?

Its to do with the automatic fan stuff on the 8800GT and these are the instructions its following I think, cant work out the middle three T min T range and T operating (?)

your pretty good with this kinda stuff! :o

How long did that take? Looks hard.

Huh? thats strange I thought u could use Riva to adjust the SHaders? I'm sure I seen it there before?

That Expert Tool gives me a shader option under XP so I'm not sure whats up?

Looks to me as if the cooler is trying to keep the core at 90C, with a 10C either side deadband, so it won't slow down or speed up the fan until it reaches 80C or 100C.

Just takes 5mins with a soldering iron.

I guess if the card dies then you have to get a new one as it cant be replaced or returned etc..?

Im running my 8800GT (XFX) with an accelero 2 - passive, although i have a 92mm vantec stealth fan mounted to the bottom off my nvidia stacker case pointing towards it about 3" away at 800rpm.

Idle - 44C - full load 58C

I have ordered a couple of sharkoon fans to mount below it, but i now can hit 14500 3dmarks, when i get the sharkoons i should be past 15k :D

Why you able to overclock it more? I doubt an extra fan will icnrease 3dmark score.

Yeh i havent found the limits of the card yet, im a bit worried about pushing it more until the fans are in place, but it can do 730/1000 passive, which im quite stunned about. :D

Not found the limit on my card either, to think when I received it it borked at 702 on the core,

I've just passed my original goal of reaching 750 on the core, another 3D06 run

Just swapped out the default cooler on my GT for a Zalman VF900. Blimey, down to 52 degrees under load (fan on minimum btw!) versus 88 before, so a 36 degrees drop. Just goes to show how inefficient the default cooler is, and how little heat this card puts out.
