** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Does the PCB get hot at all now your core is uber cool?

Seems to be pretty cool actually:)

As far as running cards with no sinks on the memory,i'm in the "a lot of people group" as well,i have run cards in the past with just a block on & no sinks on the mem,my X1900XT run like that for over a year;)

Hmm interesting, I found in the past that I could squeeze a bit more out of the memory if it has better cooling, also if left passive they have always heated up like a good-un, far to hot to touch and again like a mini radiator in the heart of your machine.

If the ram is scorching then surely that heat passes to the PCB, which in turn passes onto the GPU so by cooling the ram better you bring the memory temp down, the GPU temp down and maybe even bring your case temps down?

I've never used any form of water cooling, only air and in a closed case so our findings may be totally different?

A lot depends on your case cooling as well mate;) They wont be running bare without any sort of cooling, there will still need to be good airflow over them

I see, any chance you could elaborate on your experience pls? or did I miss your results post? Could be useful info as I intend to mod the card this weekend so depending on your findings I may or may not have to twaddle around with ransinks! :)

Just to be clear I "Dont" run without Ram sinks I just stated a lot of people don't bother because they don't run that hot. If you read my previous post I stated you don't need to bother with any expensive thermal tape and I just said use the supplied. :)

FYI my GT runs with a maze 4 and ram sinks stuck to the ram with some bog standard double sided sticky tape. I then have a 120mm fan sat ontop of the maze 4 held on with 4 blobs of blutac blowing air down over the entire card. See sig :)

I bit the bullet and just ordered a Leadtek 8800GT 512MB with the Accelero S1 cooler, a Sharkoon Gamer Rush mouse and a nifty exhaust fan to sit under the 8800. :)

Sick of my GTX giving sketchy performance and making my PSU cut the power now and then when I overclock it.

Can't wait to overclock this thing, was gonna pay 24 quid for saturday delivery but I got told off for even suggesting it. So Monday is the day.

Selling my GTX hopefully for £240 odd hopefully on a certain auction site and the GT+Accelero came to £190 not a bad gain there me thinks. :) (and for me it's likely a gain in performance at my res)

Upping hte voltage in BIOS has resulted in higher clock. Whereas I was running at 720 core before, I now have it up to 775MHz.

With that and my Q6600 running at 3.6, I am now getting 14704 in 3D06. I was hoping to break 15000, but guess I will have to live with this.

So final clocks are 775/1815/2000

Edit: oh, have not done extensive checking of temps, but running 3d06 it never went above 68. I know I need to run something like ATI tool for a bit, just to be sure temps are safe, as still using stock cooler.

Is this with a bios mod? XS?
