***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Installed RTCW:ET on an SDHC Card.

Doesn't run too bad, little laggy at times but considering it runs on an SDHC Card!

Just need to find some servers that don't require you to download crap before you play!

Hi,

Did you have any problems installing XP? Just tried mine from a usb DVD-ROM drive and it installed fine but seems to fail when doing one of the security updates from windows update (it said there were 91 in total and my XP disk was SP2!)...the machine just freezes. It downloaded a fair few of them before this happened. Ithought it might be one particular update so i disabled a few trying to skip the problem but it seems to freeze when trying to do any windows update?? Also it seems very very slow when installing software. I tried installing WMP11 and after 10 minutes switched it off as it seemed to have stopped at 25%? Standard 512Mb installed but that should be fine for XP and i am also using a swap file too.

Cheers,
Hugest

ive installed xp twice one mine now, (although nlited, not full version) with no problem, first one i updated manually fine, second one i intergrated hotfixes into nlite. Try making an nlite xp iso to free some space up and such like?

Also, oblivion works, yeah. Oldblivion mod.

I see no reason why not, there is a chance it's not compatible. I can't see it damaging the eee if you tried it, it just won't boot?

Damn I want one of these, and I don't even know why :p I fancy a 4GB in white. I love the idea of a tiny 1 kg wireless lappy for web browsing around the house rather than lugging my 3 kg lappy about. I wish the screen filled that whole black area though and was higher res, I'd happily pay £300 for a 4GB with a 10" higher res screen.

Those photos are so old - Asus have already confirmed that a 10" screen isnt going to come out last time I looked...

If you have a proper look the majority of these rumours start around 14th November - Asus have already advised that their is no interest in them get a 10" eee PC because it would cannabilise sales of its own ultra laptops...

As much as I would like to believe the rumours - all they are, are the same recycled rumours where the only photographic proof is the pictures you posted above which are from Computex when they lauched the eee PC.

Not having a go at you - its just theres no substance to them once you start delving - its like me posting here that the new WoW ads will feature adult-film stars...

Id trust this site more than others: http://www.eeeuser.com/2007/11/14/rumors-about-10-eee-pc-8g-are-false/ - if one turns up it wont be anytime soon (year after 7" launched)...

Ouch, dont think i'll post any more info about the speculation here then. Yes the 10" was almost sure to be an empty shell. Still im sure a 10" will eventually be out if there is enough interest.

Id love a 10" one personally (and want to be proven wrong) as I got to try a 7" one out a couple of weeks ago and I wasnt that impressed - great gadget, but I couldnt justify it unless it was just an impulse buy.

The 10" screen just makes it more usable since it should display 600pixels across quite easily. By the time you factor in the 10" screen; the fact it would have to redesign it to fit the speakers somewhere else otherwise it would increase the footprint (whats the point if it becomes a 12"+ shell with a 10" screen) you are getting into the pricing territory of cheap laptops.

Unfortunately even though these have different roles in the market I just cant see the average user wanting it when for the same price they could get a fully functional laptop (i.e. DVDRW with a flavour of Windows) which to their peers is more 'acceptable'. The profit margin isnt there - the 7" just works because its unique enough to stand out from the crowd; doesnt have anything similar in its price bracket and is relatively inexpensive...

theres an 8.9inch screen coming out afaik, july time. Should be in the press release in afew days.

That other laptop in the images above I believe is asus' muuuch more expensive small laptop? Ive defo seen it before and at a higher price.

Ps3udo, you should look into the mods some more, a guy hacked the display drivers so they can do bigger resiolutions in windows, mine can scale 1280x1024. :) Not ideal and still buggy (no proper widescreen resolutions yet and it has text blurryness and if the laptop goes to sleep the scren comes back all blurry :P The drivers were made for better resolutions for gaming though, 800x600 etc

But im sure people will work at it.

I think thats the only thing thats interesting me at the moment - the mod-ability - in the right hands this could pretty much do everything and has the form factor to make it useful enough to try (i.e. remote for automation stuff)...

Display tweaks just wont be enough for me to get one - I just want something that can as a default read a normal webpage without much effort...

I got a white 4gb one the other day, just installed a 2gb stick of corsair, but its only1gb showing in system, any ideas why this might be?
