***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Might be best to put it in the eeeuser forums since there might be more people there that have dissembled it and aware how to get under the keyboard if you can.

Best leave it off for now and hairdryer it for now...

This might help: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=6036 :)

Good Luck

Wouldnt really recommend using the hair dryer on a laptop keyboard. Just had one of our sales guys at work come in with his new laptop with a massacred through melting keyboard, wrecked it! He had spilt coke on it so decided to put the hair dryer on it and then melted a lot of the keys! Also it dont detect the hard drive anymore, the laptops screwed!

Anyone know anywhere in stock for the 4GB @ £220ish?

If so, email in trust :p.

Check posts earlier in this thread. You can find them in very peculiar place on high street, I know there is still plenty in branch nearby me.

Well within reasonable precautions it should be fine - its not the heat but evaporation due to convection - your colleague must be a numpty to inflict that much damage :p

Also with coke you are best off trying to get rid of it using distilled water than letting that dry - dont know many people have rescued coke-infused laptops due to the damage its ingredients can cause...

The amount of heat these whack out through the keyboard i doubt a hairdryer would do much harm! :P I still wouldn't use a hairdryer though.

Going to look at a few known high street dealers today, see if they have any in stock.

If black is unavailable, the white is still nice, and doesnt get too dirty right?

Been looking at a view reviews of it, and how to make it touch screen etc, fantastic ideas :).

Anyone moved the pagefile to their sdhc card...??

Mine wont go, it always appears on C..

I have followed the correct procedures for moving pagefile, and appyling set.. etc it alwyas show on C drive, yet in properties it is showing on the sdhc card...

Anyone actually done the touchscreen mod yet?

Also, do people recommend using an external optical drive or use usb or similar to install XP?

Local highstreet shop had one priced at £250, IN STORE! So am gonna have another look around asap.

im planning on getting a eeepc in a few days and installing windows on it. i have a few questions that could maybe answered if i searched the thread but i cant be bothered to read it all.

1) how overclockable is the laptop?
2) does 64bit OS work on the laptop, especially xpx64
3) is the black one better then the white, the 4GB models?
4) how big is the powerpack if there is one?

i thank you in advance and hope for a reply

1) how overclockable is the laptop?
not very, it comes as 630mhz standard -.-, can get 900 out of it easy with new bios which it should be, some people have got over 1ghz out of it though.
2) does 64bit OS work on the laptop, especially xpx64
no? its 32bit.
3) is the black one better then the white, the 4GB models?
personal prefference
4) how big is the powerpack if there is one?
2:30 - 3 hoursish max, theres a new one that does 5 hrs i think?

i thank you in advance and hope for a reply

1) how overclockable is the laptop?

Bioses will allow it to clock just over the 900, with some over 1ghz... Im rather annoyed that the eee is advertised as a 900mhz, when in fact it operates at around 630mhz... However, this does decrease battery life.

2) does 64bit OS work on the laptop, especially xpx64

I dont think the intel cpu is a 64bit chip...

3) is the black one better then the white, the 4GB models?

Colour makes no difference on performance..!!

4) how big is the powerpack if there is one?

There isnt onw, the plug is slightly larger than a mobile phone charger...

thanks for the reply, nice to know they didnt make a stupidly large power pack for it

i know the color doesnt make a difference to performance, but i was wondering if the problem of one of the colors missing a port - i cant remember which- when compared to the other is still true or was ever true

The earlier versions had an internal miniPCI-E slot, this was removed in later models iirc.

just slapped a version of windows xp on mine, I couldn't get used to linux and nearly sold it, but with XP this ickle thing is chuffing amazing.

Just waiting for my 2 gig stick of ram to come and might try some games on here.

One quick question, all this talk of new bios being available, anyone care to point me in the right direction?
