***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

And then price.....the Aspire One 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD model is as little as £225 on the High Street  and the 1000H for only $450 in the US.......dag nam Asus pricing in Blighty :( cannot find a tempting enough deal on a 901 atm

I agree the pricing of the 901 is crazy high, not sure what Asus are doing here. The 901 is a few months old now and I would have expected to see the price fall by now. :(

Got around £300 to play with..

Musts: good battery, lightweight.

Which should i get? They all seem the same to me...

I got a eee 901 today and it is awsome. it is black, good battery life too.
i am going to put ubuntu on it.
How long did it take you to get used to the keyboard?

I have spent the last two days playing with my new Eee PC 1000H and am happy with it other that the terrible wifi reception. If I walk out the room with the router in the signal strength plummets and I lose my connection.
I thought it might be the router but my PSP has no trouble picking up a strong signal anywhere in the house.
Is this the norm? Any helpful tips?

Cheers

I got used to the keyboard after about half an hour; found it really easy! I find that the screen is too small to word process on for more than half an hour or so, it's a little cluttered. Great for browsing the web though :)

Let me know how putting Ubuntu on it goes. Last I heard there were a few issues with the wireless drivers, which is why I haven't done it yet; if these issues have been fixed then I'm in there!

I took delivery of my white 901 today first impressions when folding the top back is the screen... blimey been missing out big time on the 701 it may only be a 2" difference but it makes a world of difference, then theres the res! Browsing is now a joy!

It runs quite cool and the fan when it does kick in is very quiet. Build quality is far better than the 701, no give in the plastic.

The most amazing thing is the battery life! The atom CPU really does what it's supposed to! I've been surfing/installing/listening to music for 3 hours and right now the battery meter still states I have just under 3 hours left on auto power saving mode.:D Am stunned. Never thought i'd see the day! (Try pulling that off aspire one! ;))

I've ordered a 8,800mAh battery will report back how I get on with it when it arrives.

Thinking about getting a skin for it from decal girl, theres not many to choose from for the 900/901 but a couple aren't bad.

Hhhhm, makes me want one even more :(

Thing is, just read about the upcoming MSI Wind 'luxury' edition with Wireless-N and 6-cell battery (Advent 4212 perhaps :p) and then there is the Samsung NC10 with a price reduction just announce before even getting released......makes me think what do they know

I guess it is the same as always, tech moves on and you can't always wait for 'the next big thing'.....tbh, the 901 20GB seems to tick all the boxes, but I still would prefer a HDD or slightly more SSD space....

Then again, my imminent purchase is going to be about 2 weeks away, so who knows where we will be at then ! For now, the 901 is in top spot for me, but.......

Had a problem with youtube being rather jerky last night but it wasn't any buffering, anyone any ideas why that might be happening?

Yeah, the 901 seems the best for my needs.

20gb HD - more than ample
1gb ram - will upgrade to 2gb
good battery
good cpu
light
small

Job done.

I'm back

After 2 days of testing I gotta say im bloody impressed. The 701 seems like a toy after using the 901! The 701's screen size and native res is ARGH compared to the 901. I can't stress enough how amazed I am about the battery life, i've never seen anything like it before.. after a charge then removing the power cable and hoovering the curser over the battery icon and seeing 6hrs 30mins remaining is mental, and is true.

My issues with it are the lame 4GB of fast SSD storage, it really should have been 8GB. It is ok for XP but ahh barely! I already knew it but the other 16GB SSD is as slow as a donkey carrying a couple of fat people. But the 16GB drive isn't bad at all for apps.. i've installed Word 2007, Excel 2007, Onenote 2007 and the speed they load up after executing is pretty much instant. So can't complain too much.

Have to say curse you OCUK with hate, you only had 3 in stock at the time of ordering so I was hoping that mine would have been abit older off the production line and therefore had a ZIF connector that asus was so quick to remove. After opening the back plate I was disappointed to see just the solderied points where it should have been! Nevermind!
