***The Official ATI Radeon HD 5850 / 5870 Reviews and Discussion Thread***

After some reading fornowagain, you'll get x16/x16/x16 with eclipse plus as it has the nf200 chip. :) But I can't find anything on it about crossfireX.

Edit - doesn't make a single bit of difference though :p

Yeah see my edit, I was trying to explain it a little clearer (or not). So the third slot in that review was probably at x4, I think x4 may slow it down a bit, x8 not so much.

MSI has provided a very good PCI/PCI Express slot layout. The Eclipse features three PCIe 2.0 x16 slots (two x16 and one x4 electrical), two PCIe x1 slots and two PCI slots.

Is that just the eclipse or eclipse plus as tomshardware said it was x16/x16/x16. Might have been bull I must admit. But from x16/x8/x8 makes no difference. x4 does lower it a little bit.

As we see tri-fire having good scaling. I'm curious as to how a 5870X2 and a single 5870 would run. :) Time will tell, thanks for explaining the pcie stuff. :)

No problem. Bear in mind the 5870X2 has its very own pci-e bridge, so not quite the same thing, at least not if its pci-e bandwidth starved. The Eclipse plus is a different beast. That would have been a better choice for a reviewers test bench.

PCI-Ex16 4
PCI-E Gen Gen2 (3x16, 1x4)

That was the one I was going on about sorry I should have made that clear. It does look like a very nice board.

I really want a 5870. :( But I'd need to revamp my computer as I'm sitting on a very dull spec in comparison. Good enough though. :p

...I'm on G41...

I will either go AM3 or 1136 by christmas me thinks. Or even better if we get money from the mortgage. Again, time will tell. Or I could just steal yours. :p

My cards should come today, does anyone know if the XFX 5870's come with the crossfire connector cables? Are these still even needed?

I think he means the bridges and yes they're still needed. 1 is enough for 2 cards, although you'll often see 2 used. Going by the Sapphire accessories you should get a bridge with each card.

That thing is gonna need support struts  Is there a story to accompany the pics?

edit: looks like the X2 has a full width exhaust judging by the position of the DVI sockets.

Apologies as its doubtless been asked somewhere within this thread, but when can we expect the 5850 reviews?
