*** The Official BTCC Thread ***

Didn't want to open a new thread, so I'm gonna make a OT post here to highlight some very poor GT1 driving.

Richard Westbrook, driving the Sumo Power Nissan, made an optimistic attempt to pass Stefan Mücke. With red mist seemingly getting the better of him, Stefan Mücke came charging down the Hangar Straight at full speed, and crashed into Richard Westbrook in an apparent attempt at revenge.

Hope Stefan Mücke gets the book thrown at him.

It's hard to tell - but it does look like Stefan wanted to shake his fist at the guy as he pulled alongside, but drifted into him thus causing the accident.

There are much better ways of putting someone into the wall if that is your intention! Still pretty stupid to pull alongside and shake your fist however - especially if you are going to get it so spectacularly wrong.

Doesn't seem to hinder Honda....

Eh? Doesn't apply in the slightest.

Honda are using their own engine. Neil Brown Engineering developed a turbo version of the existing VTEC unit especially. Same with the VAG privateers who use a Lehmann tuned VAG unit.

Only the Vectra and Avensis teams are using the TOCA NGTC engine.

Right...

So the large teams have developed their own NGTC engine, and the small teams have used an off the shelf one and managed to modify their chassis to take it (and in the case of the Vectras, gone on to win races).

Still doesn't offer any sort of excuse to RML. They have got 2 choices.

Fit and NGTC engine and be competitive (like nearly every other team).
Don't fit an NGTC engine and admit they aren't competitive (like the BMWs).

They can't choose the slower setup, then have the cheek to complain its slower.

Oh, I forgot the Ford teams. They have a Mountune tuned Ford unit.

I can see Platos point about the promised parity, he's just making a lot of fuss out of it. He wasn't exactly calling the regulations a joke when he blitzed the championship in the uber torks Leon TDI....

Given that RML are running two Chevy programmes for BTCC and WTCC, running an additional development program for an NGTC engine when parity was promised could seem over ambitious. The form book was sort of showing when Andrew Jordan started going quick with the TOCA engined Vectra when it was working at the end of last season.

Brilliant weekend.

I like the fact that Plato took the chance to winge. Its great TV and nice to see these people have a bit of character, even if he is a moaning ****.

What on earth was Neal doing ????????

Wow.. Thats pretty bad! The FIA have withdrawn his license though apparently.

On RML, Techspeeds and the BMWs side TOCA promised them parity with the turbo cars and it seems that the Hondas at least are much faster on the straights. Alan Gow/TOCA currently has the hardest job in the world sorting this out and if they had not said it would be even at the start of the season or set limits then there probably would be no issue. How do you measure and compare multiple different cars with multiple different drivers and maybe some sandbagging and try to balance them. You cannot just look at Plato vs Honda either as everyone should be the same. Maybe TOCA should go and buy 30 Clio Cups and let them race those for the rest of the season!

I think straight forward power vs power wouldn't work as the turbos have a bigger torque band but more unwieldy on the brakes and sometimes corners so how are they doing it? Looking at Oulton probably is not the best as both the gradient, the wet and the high speed corners possibly helped showcase the Honda advantage. We also had Plato out dragging the Audi into lodge at one point and the non Hondas unable to get past Plato very easily!

Either way with the Hondas you can say they have put together a super new motor into there already pretty good chassis, I wonder why there have been no privateers choosing to build a full Honda NGTC car! With a top turbo, top chassis and top drivers they probably should be winning a lot!

The Civic wouldn't be eligible as a pure NGTC car, would have to be the Accord.

Off to build one (well the Acura version) in Forza 3 ;)

Think I'm gonna pop along tomorrow to Croft, would do Sunday too but will be out on my bike conquering the local hills.
