**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Did you get as far as the MagicOS 8 release? OS 7 wasn't good on the V2. Buggy, and didn't really take advantage of the form factor. But version 8.0 moved things forward a long way for me. I went from tolerating the phone to actually quite liking it.
No unfortunately not, I remember hearing rumours of 'swipe down for notifications' , was that implemented?

( Swipe down from the middle and not the corners gesture that your thumb can't reach )

That's still the same - left side of the screen for notifications, right side for control centre. It took some getting used to, but I find it quite helpful now.

8.0's big improvements for the V2 were in multi-window support and multitasking.

Anyone using Xiaomi.eu rom still? Having issues with my WiFi calling. It's enabled in settings but it doesn't seem to work correctly. The icon for it hardly ever shows in notification tray and if I do a test call there's no WiFi calling icon on the dialler.

Using a Redmi Note 10 Pro which is a few year old now but does support WiFi calling apparently.

Anyone on here gone from a Poco F2 Pro to a Pixel 8A? Or a similar change? Will that feel like an upgrade much? My POCO F2 Pro has actually been outstanding for the nearly 4 years I have had it. The only reason I'm contemplating a change, is just to get a modern phone that does Wireless Android Auto reliably. The Pixel 8A does that and obviously has good support for years going forward. My POCO F2 still takes great pictures and does everything so well though. I feel like it was ahead of it's time spec wise as I don't find it slow and the screen still looks ace, battery fine.

I switched from a Poco F3 to a Pixel 7 Pro 2 years back and don't regret it. The pure android experience on the Pixel is just a far nicer to use than the MIUI and the monthly security updates are nice to have vs nothing on the Poco.

The camera is night and day different.

The only thing I hate about Pixels, having had Samsungs, Pocos and other phones, is the Pixels have an air gap between the screen and the rest of the device so it feels hollow and cheap IMO, you can actually bend the screen slightly just pressing with your thumb. Other manufacturers glue the screen to the back of the battery, it just feels more solid and premium.

Doesn't bother everyone but it still bothers me to this day.

I don't see a difference with the camera yet having a quick play with my my wife's Pixel 8A, over my POCO F2 Pro. The thing you speak of with the air gap... I can't see/feel what you describe at all. Not sure if it's because I put thick glass protectors on all my phones, but it feels solid and fine really.
The pure Android experience is nice for sure. That's the main attraction. But then you get weirdness like not being able to move the Google Search bar widget thing on the home screen in the 8A. What's that all about. It seems locked to the bottom.

It might be less obvious on the smaller Pixels. My wifes Pixel 6 doesn't seem as bad as my 7 Pro. I initially returned my 'on release' 7 Pro as it felt so hollow and the second one was the same so just put up with it.

There are a few things locked down on the Pixels, the 'at a glance' thing in the top left can't be moved but I find it genuinely helpful so doesn't bother me, the search bar at the bottom is handy for quick searches that you just want an answer for without opening up tabs/closing them after, so pretty handy too. I see what you mean though, the whole point of android is not being 'locked' in to how others want things.

You should definitely be able to see a difference in camera with both images side by side on the screen. Probably more noticeable in low light shots.

I've been using the OnePlus Nord 4 for about 3 weeks now. Absolutely loving it. Only downside is that it doesn't have a MicroSD card slot but other than that it ticks all my boxes. The metal body is great and the fact I can charge it in 15 minutes to full is absolutely class.

Had to install nova launcher to get around some of the lack of customisation for ordering apps but it's absolutely rapid.

Anyone got a Honor Magic V3 here yet?

If so any initial thoughts? Very tempted to pull the trigger on one!

I have the V2 the hardware is very good, the V3 looks like an upgrade in many areas, the Magic OS has not been without issue, particularly if you are and ex Samsung Fold user, the OS just has a lack of Polish that has almost sent me back to Samsung, One UI is so much better particularly in Dex mode where more apps work, even the supplied browser doesn't work in Magic Desktop and the keyboard doesn't function right in that mode, its infuriating, I've had to download alternate apps to get a good desktop experience, the only reason I still have the V2 is because the hardware is so much better (from a physical perspective) but should Samsung match the hardware size and weight, the Honor is getting dropped so fast if Magic OS doesn't improve, other annoyances are the constant power intensive app warnings you can't disable and better multi window support on the inner screen with Samsung.

Other things that make the Honor feel like something from the 90s, it doesn't transition nicely across my wifi APs, often hanging onto the weakest signal, I got in touch with support, the response, wifi is hard :D Samsung and Apple work fine in my house, also the Honor share stuff causes BT car kit issues, so if you experience a BT kit connecting/disconnecting rapidly then disable that and you should find it is fine. If there weren't these problems with the Honor I'd have bought the V3 straight off as I miss things like wireless charging, gaming is nice on the thin and light Honors inner screen it is great nice to hold unlike my old chunky monkey the fold 4.

Honor also need to sort out the camera software. hardware is probably good again, just the software not quite there, whilst it might be improved on the V3 I doubt it based on comms with support.

All told though despite its glitches I am happy enough to hold on to it in the hope things improve but only because no one has something better IMO, though not tried pixel 9 pro fold yet but online reviews suggest Google can't match Samsung for software either.

Im on the honor reddit. Lets say their customer service is pretty awful in the uk... Take a look when you have time before you pull the trigger
Yeah I've been reading a lot on there. It's one of the things stopping me from ordering, lack of support (or none) and a lack of software updates.

Coming from a Pixel I think I'd struggle a bit.

I did have the P9PF on order but I've been so put off by the glass breaking all the time on Reddit, along with terrible multitasking software and tbh after using it a few times in the shop, that's hinge is so ugly :D

Just too many compromises on the Pixel.
