My E6600 @ 3ghz no extra voltage increases and its rock stable..

I know its not much but Im proud of it lol. Didnt used to overclock much in the past, but not doing so on the conroe is a crime in my eyes.

Keep going that should be good for 3.4-3.6ghz at least.

Its not made of lead, its an LMP alloy called indium and people have removed IHS at that temperature 77C. Its totally liquid by 85C, plenty of solder alloys melt in the 70 range, so be careful. High temps don't hurt the core, if it melts don't know what'll happen, damage the contact?

Here's a pretty mad thread, I haven't seen one work after the surgery yet.

Thats pretty mad!

I've got an E6600 and thought I've spent too much, thinking of dropping back to an E6300/6400 to save a little money. Ideally the E6300 to save the most, but I'm looking at 428FSB to get 3.0GHz and 457FSB to get 3.2GHz, it this realistic with the Asus P4W DH - I've not really seen many results with an Allendale/P5W combination. The E6400s multi would sure help but as I said, I'd prefer to go for the cheaper model.

If getting a E6300 then the 965 chipset is better for them and overclocking.

However the 975 chipset is better with the 6600 and upwards conroe models.

You will not get 450 FSB on the ASUS.

I don't unerstand why you have gone for the asus at 150 quid and then want to skimp on the brain of the pc.

Wht not just get a DS3 for 100 quid and a 6300 in the first place.

If i was you I would stick with your original choice and get a E6600.As a 6300 with the asus will be a mismatched system.

Making some progress now that I've hooked it up to my Vapo, haven't tested Prime stability yet - I was surprised it even got into Windows to be honest, couldn't get much higher than 3.6 on my heatsink/fan (Arctic Freezer 7 Pro)

ncie getting over 4^^

ive ordered the ds3, with an e6300 and the slower geil ram (i think its 5400), would that be able to get to 3ghz without running the ram on a divider? if i need to use a divider will i notice much difference?

I dont think you can run mem on divider on the DS3 unless a bios version has fixed it.
