The official Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP Thread

What is the best alternative for gamers...
Dell 2407 but no HDMI
Iiyama B2403WS-B 24" Widescreen TFT LCD 3ms

some folk over at hardocp are quoting Eizo models like this one here;

http://www.trustedreviews.com/displays/review/2007/07/25/Eizo-FlexScan-HD2441W-24in-LCD-Monitor/p4

But then u will need to rob a bank for these lovely Eizo screens..

Am too on the hunt for better 24" screens but doesnt really seem any, a lot of folk are suggesting to go back to 24" TN panels for now since there cheaper and do gaming fine.

Not all 24" PVA screens have 60ms lag, the old non-HC 2407 was around 30-35 ms which isn't too bad. Was hoping to find out what lag the OcUK 24" PVA has (the L2442WD, which is actually a Digimate) but no luck. Pitty LG don't seem interested in doing a 24" S-IPS.

Personally I couldn't have a TN for my main display, looking at one right now on my laptop and the viewing angles are so badly compromised, and supposedly the bigger the screen the bigger problem it is.

Yeah id be interested in finding out the lag on the OcUK 24" PVA/L2442WD screen also, for just over 200 beans its way cheaper then the dell and might offer the same perks and well if its got little lag perfect for gaming then.

Oddly laptops TN panels which most I reckon are are pretty bad with viewing angles also, but my Samsung 24" 245B TN panel was fine... sure the contrast/quality went if u really moved your head left to right but nothing so bad to avoid it. Id consider getting it again but as most have suggested TN panels overall quality doesnt look as sharp/detailed as the PV/PVA/IPS and other better panels out there.

currently i have a 2005FPW which is an S-IPS 170/170 0.25 pixel pitch. worthwhile upgrade to the 2408? how does this compare to the benq 241W?

Absolutely gutted. Was really relying on the dell being superb. Yet again we're let down. There's no way I'm ever going to spend that sort of money on below-par products. For heaven sake is there a good monitor coming?

RoEy

The more I read about the Dell, the more I am put off by it. Waiting to see what is said about the Samsung SM-2493HM and SM-2693HM's....(am looking for an all in one replacement to run Sky/DVD/PS3 and PC)

The Hazro's are looking more tempting by the minute, it'd be nice to hear some first hand user reports as to their gaming performance though.

I decided to get the 24" Hazro, but their website that actually sells the products have been removed.(utastic.com etc)
I emailed Hazro, and got a weird reply.
Something about needing a sales voucher(and product number) to purchase directly off them???

Anybody know what is going on with them?

Maybe it's just me... but three hundredths of a second doesn't seem like its going to be perceptible with out doing side by sides. Do those people who have this monitor actual perceive it as a problem?
My dell monitor (2405) is meant to have the same amount of LAG and it never been a problem at all for me...

That hazro looks stunning but doesnt look like its in the market or for sale even ;)

The samsung 245B TN panel obliterates any other 24" screens in that lag test !

No wonder why its where the gamers are going for it, I have to admit I noticed zero lag effects during gaming with that screen.

Id really love to see a Samsung 245B or TN panel Vs PVA/SPVA/S-IPS type panels for raw image quality cos am wondering like the many hardocp members saying they going back to the fast/reliable/cheap TN panels too.

Any thoughts or opinions on that ?

I'd say PQ wise, the only real difference you are likely to notice is in viewing angles. Colour accuracy is very good from the SM245B once calibrated, and black depth is also very good (better than many VA panels even!). Image is sharp as well....viewing angles are the only real weakness in practice, especially when you use a screen of this size
