The official Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP Thread

Baddass do you notice the 60ms of lag on your 2405FPW ???

(As i dont notice it on my own 2405FPW)

i never really game on my 2405FPW but when i used to, never really noticed any issue with it. Unless you're playing a lot of FPS or are a serious gamer, i dont think you really need to worry about input lag. Certainly not as much as some people would suggest!

I agree, it's only a problem in a small subset of very quick games, and only for certain people. My old Samsung 172T (PVA) had noticeable input lag (dunno exactly how much) but I still played Prey on it and Serious Sam co-op and while you could perceive the slight delay between moving mouse and the view moving, you soon forgot about it.

Really fast games though, say UT on instagib (one hit kills), or CS, or say a very quick racing game, especially if you're playing competitively, then it's more undesireable.

I notice the 2407 and the 2408 are on offer this week... is the 2408 worth the £65 more than the 2407 screen? or wait for another one.
Depends what you're going to be using it for. One has a minor ghosting problem (2407WFP-HC), the other (2408) has higher than average input lag. Shame really because the old 2407WFP A04 (not made anymore so hard to find new) didn't have either problem. 2408 has more inputs including HDMI and DisplayPort if that's important to you.

For heaven sake is there a good monitor coming?
Come and gone - it's called the Dell 2407WFP A04

They hit perfection with this one. All the problems of the earlier revisions ironed out and 1:1 mapping added. They then introduced the HC version which had ghosting issues and now the 2408 has input lag problems.

If you can find an A04 2407 non-HC anywhere, grab it!

So so disapointing from Dell... just pays to know if u see something good at one time u gotta sometimes go for it, who would have ever guessed the 2 newer models to come after the A04 would be downgrades

being used to play games like EVE, WOW and CS2[ photoshop ] stuff. nothing much else.
I think either would suit those uses, as would all the other 24" PVA and MVA panel screens out there. Eve/Wow aren't time criticial games really. Probably the ghosting of the 2407WFP-HX would be more noticeable, but that's just a guess, I haven't used either.

Only one problem with the 2407WFP A04 if you're a graphics person, and that's the smaller gamut. Apart from that it's nigh-on perfect.

Mind you, providing you calibrate with the right probe and the right software you can pretty much guarantee your colours will be accurate even if you can't actually see some of them.

Never seen any input lag tests done for it though. Does anyone have a link?

Good review. I thinki will have to wait for Dell to address the issues peopel are reporting on this screen before spending hard earned cash on it. For £500 - ish, i expect 99% perfection.

Good thead and Advice.

Calibration with the GretagMacbeth software and either the Blue-Eye or Eye-One probe is definitely the most accurate method. I can't see much use for the LaCie software other than to check your results - it's strangely unresponsive.

Hi guys, I've put together a big article about the new screen which should document all the changes, updates and all feedback about "issues" and problems which have arisen and been reported so far:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/dell_2408wfp.htm

will update regularly as things develop, but should hopefully be a good resource to combine all the info across the web into one place :)

Thank you Baddass :)

Is there any reason to pay ~£150 extra for the 2408WFP, over the Samsung SM-245B, for general PC usage(casual gaming, movies, photoshop work, etc) ?

I'm buying one later this month and was set on the 2408WFP, but now the 245B seems a better deal. The Dell only has better viewing angles. which should not affect a user sitting infront of the screen.

Edit: Just noticed the 245B only has Analog / Digital inputs.....
