The official Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP Thread

So, is *** samsung 245B godo for photoshop work as well as gaming? Lookign for a godo all round 24" screen and if the Dell isnt up to it, with have to be the samsung i guess. Unless there is another one worth looking at.

got me a 2408, upgrade from my old viewsonic 17", and wow! Havn't had the chance to plug in my xbox elite via hdmi yet (lent it to a mate for a bit) but cant wait to see it in action (when is GTA4 out?). I've read all the info about input lag, but cant say ive noticed any problems so far (playing hl2 singleplayer and lotro), but im not a hard core gamer and im getting a bit old now so maybe player lag > 2408 input lag ;)

I'd say PQ wise, the only real difference you are likely to notice is in viewing angles. Colour accuracy is very good from the SM245B once calibrated, and black depth is also very good (better than many VA panels even!). Image is sharp as well....viewing angles are the only real weakness in practice, especially when you use a screen of this size

Thx, although I recently sold off my Samsung 245B and Pc..... get the feeling and itching to go back to it again cos it wasnt that bad at all frankly;)

Does anyone know if the 2408 will look OK next to a 2407HC? I mean does the plastic bezel and buttons look the same etc?

Are they using the same or very similar panels? In terms of viewing angles and colour reproduction?

i believe the design is the same, and being that they are both S-PVA based they should look quite similar next to one another.

just hooked up my xbox elite to my 2408 via hdmi and im really impressed, halo 3 looks fantastic on this screen. I'm still playing with the custom rgb colour setting for it to get it nice (what settings does anyone else have?) but being a little colour blind it would probably look horrible to others lol The 1:1 setting is great too so that the 1080p xbox picture is not scaled in anyway, naturally there are the black bars at the top and bottom of the picture but there not huge as the monitor is very close to 1080p resolution.

I've still got my trusty Dell 2405FPW, serves my needs perfectly well, and dont get to use it that often with all the testing of other screens tbh :)

Baddass, just out of curiosity, what happens to all those lovely review samples you get. Do they end up going back to the manufacturer when you're finished with them?

Well I think it's fair to say before everyone gets in a panic over the input lag that not everyone will be effected by it, many people will not even notice it, yes I'm famously fussy when it comes to input lag but I have friends that use my 215Tw that has similar lag and they don't even know what I'm talking about, don't forget the old 2405's this was a very popular panel and also suffered a similar rate of input lag, guess I'm just trying to say don't right this panel off completely unless you know that your particuly sensitive to input lag, for many it will be fine.

they go back sadly, although I'd have a house full of boxes and screens if i kept them all! :)

Heh, I can imagine how my walls would look if I had the option [of keeping all those monitors], but where would I get enough inputs?

Any idea how long negotiations/the chaps at Dell will take, Baddass?
I was thinking of buying it early the week after this so I can check it over, over a holiday, but would prefer to read a review by y'self first, if possible.
