So, as a person who has never played any of the Diablo games, would it be worth picking up Diablo 2 to see if it's something I might like? Love blizzard games in general, and liking the look of this from videos, screenshots etc.

The ideal world I guess would be to get a beta invite, but I'm not sure that will happen as after the fiasco with the Cataclysm Beta from the forums here I can no longer sign up for beta to any battlenet games :(

Diablo 2 is still a great game IMO, played it through only recently and had a blast. :)

If your a bit wary of it's age, you could also look at something like Titan Quest as the best "modern" equivalent. :)

It doesn't matter which AH you end up using anyway
What did you say? Each piece of gold dropped will be worth a certain amount of real money? Not only does this mean that you are tecnically making money as you play, it also means that whether you use the gold AH or the cash AH will be irrelevant. The concept is called Arbitrage, and for those of you not accustomed to economics I'll explain how it works.

Total and utter nonsense....

Gold has the potential to be inflated to unreal amounts - in Diablo 2 you'll struggle to find any long term player who isn't gold capped at 9999999999 gold. It's literally worth nothing. If Diablo 2 had a cash and gold AH, no one would buy or sell a single thing on the gold AH.

Of course, that could be different in D3, we'll have to wait and see. Most likely, items will have stable price in the cash AH and inflate at an absurd rate in the gold AH.

I dunno. I know the beta isn't intended as any gameplay testing. Just to ensure that the infrastructure behind the game is solid and working.

They can't be that far off if they're in the position. I think optimistically, around Chrimbo could be possible. Here's hoping. :p

Perhaps but it does make it possible that after all this it might end up being launched early because they decide they want it out in December but it looks like it'll be polished in Jan/Feb.
