***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

Hi
Update to previous post - figured it has been hot here the last couple of days so I re-seated the CPU on the spec below and added a fan at the back making two bloeing in (top and side) and two out at the back directly opposite the AC7 cooler (all cheapo 80mm fans). Temps are down at 62-63'C on Orthos blend at three and a half hours on 2.7Ghz (Vcore1.376V according to cpu-z). Gaming with Armed Assault did'nt raise the temp above 60 during an hours play even in a pretty hot room, so I figure 3Ghz is OK with this 2160 and an AC7 cooler with the case well ventilated (I had two input and one output fan before and it stored up the heat, raising the temp).

Does anyone know if Northbridge coolers are worth it ?

P965-DS3 benifit from NB coolers, but perhaps could do 333 x 9 without it.

my e2160 runs happily all day long at 3ghz, 333x9 using a thermalright cooler (cheap £15 thing) and a 120mm case fan, 8800 gts does rais case temps by a couple a degrees though, as was cooler without it t'other day while i tested a diff (old 128mb) Gpx card. Im happy to see the high 60's on this chip to be honest as no throttling occures.. and it "should" shut down if it gets too hot any ways.

I'm currently running a 2160 under a AC7 on an asus p5k @2700, both sides off the case doing run of mill stuff (browsing etc) and the cpu is sat between 39 and 42, if I put the sides back on the temps go up to about 50.

Sounds like a case of poor ventilation, stick a few extra fan's in ?

Anyway, is there any way that we can make a list of E2140 temperatures at 3ghz compared to E2160 temperatures at 3ghz ? I just seem to read more low E2140 temperatures.

Hi
I wound the 2160 up to 3GHz last night had a couple of hours of Armed Assault multiplayer - max temp report by TAT was a spike at 58'C, otherwise it varied between 49-56'C. Very happy as I was aiming for 3GHz and from what I have seen AA is pretty CPU intensice as games go (though I might try single player which would drive the CPU harder imho). Now I just need to krank up the 8800GTS . . .

I agree it would be good to see a list of temps but from my experience there are also other factors affecting performance.

e2160 on p35-dq6 with xp-120 (old themalright h/s fan with mount adapter), 44'c idle; 66'c load after a minute of orthos. I have tested this before on orthos. Its in a little room which is not that well ventilated (no window) rather than next to me making noise.

Update, left it on overnight with the case sides on and temps stayed pretty much the same (40-44), first run of orthos and it failed after 7 secs, have upped the voltage to 1.325 now (had it set to 1.3) and am testing at 2.8, temps are 65-68 after 35 minutes, my cpu fan is running at about 900 rpm, which I'm sure if spinning a bit quicker might shift some more heat. Are there utils that allow you to control the speed of the fan? Tomorrow I might replace the 80mm fan with 120mm varieties to see if I can shift some of the warm air out of the case a little more efficiently. I know its not a huge overclock, but I'm reluctant to go to much further until I have sorted out some adequate airflow.

Anyways its all good fun.

An AC7 fan is near silent upto 2000rpm (75%), use speedfan to control load temps with the fan speed.
I think 2000rpm is good for another 5c + off the load temp.

Woop, 100% overclock, although for an additional 200mhz of speed the extra 7c really isn't worth it lol id change it back, but its heating my room fantasticly.

Lol yes, crucial ballistix all the way :D The timings and speed give it away ? Its been fantastic, might try and tighten up the timings a bit later too.
Would like to see some E2180 overclocking , anyone planning on getting one ?

Temps are fine btw. . .
yeh there pretty reasonable, drops an additional 4-5c if i put the tuniq tower on full too...just like quiet :D
