*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

In my early days I did a fair bit of piracy, just for the fun and I never "finished off" another ship unless they turned and fought. Now I just don't see the point and much prefer the style of Mobius and that is seeing other commanders but no opening fire on them. My ships are far too expensive to replace and it hurts a lot to do that now, so I would rather do missions/wing up and have fun that way over pirating. I don't knock anyone who does it though and it is fun but the risk rewards as said by Mr Sukebe doesn't warrant the time and effort for me.

But PvP piracy works as it can add intense moments.

eg: Yesterday when another CMDR decided to jump into where I was pirating someone and then attack me. I could have run, but decided to stay and fight for the cargo...

I used to pirate the rare run routes, but yeah that doesn't really pay well. Bloody good fun though.

Generally now I do Robigo for cash when I need it, or CG or rez

Mobius is the only way to play IMO.

I find that Trading CG's in general are great, the amount of co-operation between Commanders never ceases to amaze me.

This may seem like an odd question, but in what way do players cooperate?

Well the game doesn't do nearly as much as it could, but you have basic bonuses for trading in a group. And you can of course farm bounties in a group/wing.

But other obvious team activities such as mining and exploring are all but ignored.

There are less orchestrated team efforts such as the fuel rats.

For some of the trade CG's commanders have got together and helped with the loading of much larger ships, who then go off and make the delivery to the CG destination. Especially useful if commodities are in limited supply.

There's even a dedicated group in game for such a thing "TEAKA E A BAGGING CO-OP" aka Tea Bagging if you will :p

The annoying thing about being able to do that in a private group is that you do it without any possible repurcussions. You can affect the background sim and if people want to stop you they cant.

They are forced to just do the same thing you are doing in order to do so because they cant physically blockade a trade cg for x y z reasons.

Not saying pvp is key but a station needs components well maybe a rival faction doesnt want you to get those components there. They decide to setup a blockade but cant do **** because people are doing the cg in solo and private groups.

They really copped out having separate shards as they are instead of having a solid and well run security system in place to respond to attacks in higher security systems unless at CG's ofcourse.

This is the only thing I dislike about ED really.

tea bagging lavian brandy for a recent CG was just brilliant, i was filled up with 80 tonnes of brandy, went off and delivered the goods.
Then all night i was in and out the station filling up other cmdrs so they could do the same and stay in the top 10% and a nice CG bonus afterwards :)

Met some great people and new friends, all in all just a great experience and fun night.

I've got to say I unfortunately agree with all of this. I really wish they hadn't split it up so much, it could have been an amazing experience but just falls short of the mark. Maybe it's my fault for expecting something that was never going to happen, but it doesn't stop me being a little disappointed about what could have been! I hope the other space sims try a different route.

I have taken up mining for now and finding it totally relaxing. I have a nice pristine metal ring as well to use. Anyone else enjoy mining or am I just a freak? lol

I love mining, pretty much all I did when I played. It's a shame that mining is always last on the list of priorities for improvements or changes though.

Not touched the game since 2.1 and nothing in 2.2 seems worth it yet, so guess I'll carry on waiting.

No you are not alone, quite enjoy mining as well, its a great deal better with the controllers working with you.

Mining away whilst watching netflix or something on the other screen.

Can someone with a Rift help me out please....

I'm running the stand-alone version of Horizons and my rift is turning up today.

I've been googling for about an hour and found all sorts of threads about setting up the rift and elite. But they all refer to old versions of the rift SDK or even the DK2.

I've found threads about adding elite to the oculus Home and using SteamVR.

Can someone either give me a bluffers guide to setting up the stand-alone version, or the easiest way of getting it al to work properly including head tracking. Getting v.excited :-)

I use both the stand alone and Oculus versions Hodders.

When you have the Rift all setup, run the standalone version, go to settings, go to graphics, go to 3D, choose either HMD speakers or headphones, off you go and F12 is the orientation key, which is needed to get it set to how you like it (in game).
