Had my rift for about a week now. Been flying around in my 'conda since getting it.

Swapped into my vulture to go and get it's L5 shield mod done - WOW. Just LOVE the open cockpit style. If I stand up and look out of the side window I can just about see my lasers firing :-)

Landing at Traders Rest was fun as well.
 
Only 600m to go then, I have 2 billion in creds and time to splash out on a fully A rated corvette with plenty of spare cash for the OOO **** moments.
 
I haven't done any engineer mods yet so this makes things a little clearer. I take it the mod is particular to the specific module? For example, if I apply a mod to an A5 shield then get a ship with an A6 shield, the A6 shield will be unmodded?

Download and setup the rift software as it states in the box.

The rift certainly changes the game, remember to download the latest sdk from here and use the debug tool to increase the clarity/quality of the oculus picture :)

file structure is roughly - ovr_sdk_win_1.8.0_public\OculusSDK\Tools\OculusDebugTool.exe - i have pinned this to my task bar now.
load up oculus home
load the debug tool and set the pixel per display pixel overide to something like 1.5 depending on your gpu. I use a 980ti and set it too around 1.7.
start Elite up and in the graphics menu change the setting to hmd with speakers.

also set a key to centre your headlook for when your in the rift, its under controls - miscellaneous - reset hmd orientation

Im still playing around with graphics settings and the gpu terrain work slider in vr to ger the best i can from it.

I have a tool called EDProfiler which makes setting up both a monitor and rift profile really easy and makes switching trivial. Recommended.

The plan is to park my Conda, find a Courier or ImpEagle and then see how long before I pancake into a mountain. :D

I downloaded for this very reason but unfortunately it only supports up to 3 x monitors so cannot select the 4th monitor as my primary screen :(
 
At last! Finally managed to bag 25 Modular Terminals to unlock Qwent, although I didn't really push it and was quite happy doing some Sothis/Ceos runs in truth but nice to get him unlocked at last :)
 
Worst part of those bloody terminals is that as soon as you get some cargo the npc pirates start interdicting you every 2 hops. But at least breaks up the journey

You know that lol. A PITA and I boost to 400, so I don't even bother fighting them.

Decided to buy another Cutter and go with A8 shields on this Cutter and use the other for trading. This will or should be quite good in combat if I can get it to turn quick enough. I have been playing with FA off and not too bad but still quite noobish.

Cillit Bang does some good PVP videos that can provide some assistance. But also some other good vids on YT showing. They show how to use FA off to turn quicker - when to hit the button, watching your speed, boost past etc
 
I actually find arena quite good for honing combat skills in a zero risk environment. It's also good fun! Matchmaking can be a bit pants though as I suspect it's not got loads of players. Would love to see a version of arena where you could fly your own ships, or at least just some of the bigger ships. Presume it would need a bigger player base though.

Yer, I played Arena in Beta a lot but not touched it since :(

Ouch on my rebuy cost..... 46 Mil :eek:
