*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

ok, so I'm 100% rank outsider, I have been doing missions + donation missions for over an hour now and I cant get an ascension mission for empire, am I doing something wrong.

woo hoo well I have just got elite in trading, now do I go combat or rank up in empire

Congrats. Took me close on a year, though being that was whilst I wasn't trying too hard for most of it.
You can now use Shinrarta Dezhra, which is mega useful as Jameson has ALL components in stock in a single location, and at a 10% discount. I moved all of my ships there for my home base. Local missions are a bit pants, but the shipyard made it worthwhile for me.

cheers mr sukebe, I wasn't aware of that I will now add that to my bookmarks, but how did you move you fleet there as you have to fly back to get other ships, or is there a way of getting other ships to one place. so I take it that shinrarta is founders world.

I splashed on the Warthog HOTAS joystick and throttle. Beasty pieces of kit tbh. But it's hard to get the same 6-degrees of movement using the throttle POV switch and koystick switches... and the throttle doesn't have RZ twist for rotation. I watched some vids showing SC under two joysticks. Once configured properly, it seemed to allow easier 6-deg movement.

Still learning it tbh but seems good so far... especially for dogfighting

OK finally managed to get some Imperial ranking done - now up to Baron.

BUT all I am getting now is empty Empire missions - this is in HIP 10716 which is supposed to be full of of Boom Data missions. The game seems to want me to go back to Fehu and just do the donation missions :-/

I am getting that also. I think it's been disabled :(

If you have got loads of cash then Fehu is still offering loads of donation missions.

It still seems mad that bounty hunting and trading normally just don't get you any rep.

Especially Bounty hunting. If I am in Imperial space and am killing their criminals then why does that not count towards ranking.

I've even set up a voiceassist macro for bouncing the BB :-/

That makes sense. I think I will stick with the one for now as I am rather old and struggle with new things like that but I can see the benefit.

Had to do it one at a time, i.e. fly a ship to SD, store it, buy a hauler (cheapest taxi around, with good jump range once given the best FSD you can buy), fly to your next ship location, sell the taxi and make slight loss. Rinse and repeat. At the time, I had 6 ships in total, so was done in a single evening.
Once complete, really is massively easier to deal with ship configuration as everything is to hand.

Time for a pedal box then. I have a complete CH HOTAS setup. I have up/down/sideways thrust mapped an analogue thumbstick on my throttle. Forward and backwards thrust is mapped to my rudder pedal toe brakes. That lot works for me.

Do you also have the CH pedals? I've been thinking about them but they seem too close together for my big legs

I still find the visuals jaw dropping even after 2 years of play. On my way back to the bubble now though and time for something different to exploration. 2K Ly out still.

What are people doing to earn decent creds quickly, the Robigo run got nerf'd a while back which was fine when I was after a Python, now I want a Conda so need a bit more money in the bank...

that looks cool dlknight, but unfortunately most of them dates fall on my late week so I ll be in work for most of it.

Shouldn't matter - you can still take part and don't have to make the all of the meet-ups :) last expedition I did was Small Worlds and had to skip a lot of the first way points due to being late back from Jaques and then I only made one of the social gathering way points but was still worth it.

Ooh tempted

Do it... we could have a OCUK sub-group :)

I'm looking at gaining rank in the Empire when I get back to the bubble mostly so I can unlock the next ship up which for me is the Imperial Clipper.

I originally ranked up to Master in Cubeo but not sure if that is still a good place?

Just for you @Gregster - my Viper Mk4 high over an Earth Like World on my return from SWE :)

Yep, I have the full fighterstick, throttle and pedals..
Being fair, the pedals are probably the least useful of the three. Don't get me wrong, they're invaluable in DCS for flying a chopper. In ED, they get far less use, mainly during docking and sometimes during combat.
Ref their size, I don't have any issues at all, but then I'm only 5'8". The only real issue I've had is that by default, they tend to slide around the floor. My solution was some heavy duty velcro on the bottom of the box and then sitting them on a large chunk of wood that adds weight and braces them against the wall.

Personally am doing long range haulage runs from Sothis. After spending some time ranking up to at least friendly with the different parties you should expect to make at least 1 million for every 10t hauled. The bad side is that cycling the game mode to pick up the best missions and the completing both legs of the run can easily be a couple of hours.
