*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

So they sold us a shell of a game and now we have to pay for the meat ? They are taking the **** now.

It's a shell of a game in YOUR opinion, which is half the problem with people who are moaning about Elite Dangerous. Yes the game does not have much content (yet) and powerplay is a massive grind fest but the game is more aimed at people who make their own content/want to play in a sandbox. A classic example of this is the Fuel Rat guys, they created their own content by offering a service to rescue people who ran out of fuel. This wasn't designed by Frontier themselves but is exactly the kind of thing that matches the vision that Frontier have. Buckyball run being another. People are expecting a different game to the vision that Braben and Frontier have and get all angry about it. The game is doing what it set out to do, especially considering they have always been open about it being developed as the game evolves. These expansions were always stated would happen and now people moan about it? That said, I am a little confused about their pricing scheme I will admit.

Yeah man this is like the most obvious thing to say when the butthurt is too stronk. It's like the motto of every rage quitter, ever.
They're not rage-quitters. They're still playing today.
They were just advising against new players starting, because they will get crushed unless they immediately join a corp. Some of them do state that they purposely go out to make this happen in order to force-recruit people.
I know others who have quit, because the game has gone too far away from what it used to be.

Either way, it doesn't look like something I'm interested in, so I won't be bothering. No 'butthurt' even involved.

That's pretty much in line with those that say that Elite is spacetruck simulator and there is nothing to do.
That is somewhat accurate, though, especially if you're crap at combat flight!
Further content is coming, but it's not here yet and the current options are certainly limited.

But if you wanna tell me that giving the players the chance to own stuff is horrible and misguiding game design, I think you gotta be kidding.
The devs themselves have said it 'may' be something they will include later on, but you'd need a LOT of people to pool together to afford a controlling interest in something so expensive as just one small station, let alone fully control entire systems, regions, or even the whole galaxy.
Having seen how it's spoiled other games, I'm inclined to agree with their policy.

We cannot even store (and swap) modules on our ships because the only "game design feature" is to build a whole new ship for every role and task we may bear in mind. What is that, a stroke of genius? lol
Yet...
But it's also a challenge - You can carry 232T of cargo, but at the sacrifice of something potentially useful like a shield generator. That's more along the Risk vs Reward thing that Elite likes to present.

People are expecting a different game to the vision that Braben and Frontier have and get all angry about it.
^ This.
ED and SC were crowd-funded so the Devs could make the game how *they* wanted, being free from the controlling interests of publishers, investors and so on. That includes players, as they pledged and donated - They did not invest, so are not actually entitled to anything in return.

That said, I am a little confused about their pricing scheme I will admit.
My only concern is over the lifetime pass thing, as there was only one Beta package available at the time and I don't believe it included that pass...

I think I have the lifetime pass? I paid £85 iirc £50 for beta access and £35 for something else. Regardless, £40 to land on a few barren rocks are they taking the ****?

If it was £40 to 'land on a few barren rocks' they might well be, but it's not is it.

I find it baffling that people are complaining that FD are releasing a paid for expansion. They've said from day 1 they will be doing this, and what mmo doesn't release an expansion these days? its how FD will continue to keep the monies coming in etc.
Likely because the base game is like a beta still & lacking in any deep content & they are charging full price for it. Then charging decent amounts to plug the gaps is a bit cheeky.

These features should have been part of the core game, not DLC.

It's no different to a great many games out there, Destiny being a classic example of something far far worse. Planetary landings were always slated for a paid expansion, they were never on the cards for release or as a free update. There is CQC to come and at least one other non-minor update before we get anywhere near planetary landings yet too so arguing that nothing is being added is inane, each to their own though, you are entitled to your opinion but you wont get me agreeing with it.

I'm not disputing that it's been on the card since release. I'm disputing that it's acceptable to have a core game aspect repackaged for a game with hardly any content which is going for the same price as AAA games.

Destiny is a load of crap either way.

Common sense at last. Well said.

It's not a core game aspect, it never was intended to be one. It is an expansion, it always has been. Arguing that it should be part of the base game is pointless.

Dont mind that have to pay for planetary landings. Do mind the very high price.

£20 would be more acceptable. So i will wait until it gets to near that price. I do think FD will implement the planetary landings and missions and structures etc very well so no concerns

However in the unlikely event if the PL are just custscenes or its like autopilot and click on X to land at that point and only that point...then i wont buy it...will wait and play one of the other epic space flight pc games coming out soon :) e.g. No man's sky

Planetary Landings isnt a core game aspect, they've always said its an expansion.

You could argue that 1.2 (wings update) was a core game aspect that should have been in release etc, and i agree it is still missing things that probably should have been in release, or soon after though.

Honestly they could have asked any money for the planetary landing. It's like the thing all and everybody ever wanted to play since ever and looking at the premises it seems to be pretty darn good.
