*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Spoke too soon. Just checked, no quests appearing at all, chat in game shows same for all.
Perhaps cooldown from reset or from lockdown?
Or the dreaded "we patched that out"...

Just made triple Elite, me is a happy bunny. Roughly 6 weeks to nail Deadly to Elite in combat. Just aswell I was using a full on engineered A spec Vette, c/w an Elite NPC in my SLF.
Now, think I'm going to look at Raxla...

Awesome work and congrats :)

I just need exploring myself and currently sitting on Ranger, so quite a long way to go but I enjoy exploring, so happy days :)

Never witnessed a star with rings in game, dare say it'd confuse me upon entering system ;)

Did see a pulsar posted on Reddit other night though, also had rings.

Congrats Sukebe.

So I rolled 30 times last night for a better G5 Long Range FSD mod, hoping for a reasonably good multiplier (which I deemed >45%) with fairly minimum values on the remaining attributes. The majority of my rolls were pretty "meh" to be honest, a few times when the remaining attributes all rolled low values so did the multiplier and when the multiplier did go high the other attributes were pretty bad. I finally settled on a multiplier of 53% with the others all at the high end. How many times are people here rolling on their mods?

No idea tbh. I tend to roll about 6 times for a good-ish value then shoot off to do other stuff. Then re-roll when I have time, enpassing. My ships are all at <1% their max jump range so its mostly about getting reduced fuel consumption etc now for me.

So something is bothering me about the G5 FSD mod I've done. As noted I got a very good multiplier but the other values were at the other end of the spectrum, and after much searching on-line I can't seem to find anyone arguing that the other attributes (integrity, mass and power draw) really have any bearing on performance, its all about the multiplier. My Python is only running at 75% power with all modules so power isn't an issue, the extra mass apparently is cancelled out by the higher multiplier (although I guess impacts thruster performance) and module integrity...well I don't really get what implications that has. Are they really negligible enough not to worry about re-rolling for lower values?

More mass = shorter jump range but it depends how much more mass it is. Generally, with a Grade 5 the benefit of the better optimised-mass will greatly out way that which is lost from increased mass. Re thrusters, less mass = more top speed & the better the trusters the greater the impact. As for integrity, it is your FSD's hitpoints, so if it goes down it can be destroyed faster in combat. Thus, higher is better.

Basically if you can re-roll do. You don't have to accept it & can keep your current mod if it is better.

The first roll on an unmodified module will often give you a high score in the beneficial modifier and low scores in the disadvantageous modifier. This is what you got ie high multiplier but the negatives of the mod are also in the high range. Trying to get high advantageous modifier and low disadvantageous modifiers is difficult and takes lots and lots of rolls. It depends what you are using the ship for what modifiers are more important. An explorer probably wants the biggest jump hence optimised mass that can get and aren't going to be worried about reduced integrity. A combat player might be more concerned with limiting the integrity loss and will accept a smaller jump increase.

Thanks to Quince I got 850mill' (already had 250ish) so headed off to buy the Cutter. Looks good, sounds great, turns like a snail.
Started spending some pennies & I'm now down to 73mill (insurance is 38mill lol) when I thought I'd go see how much Reactive Surface Composite costs.

Around 500million!?
/facepalmdesk this had better be some totally impervious gear at that price...

Also a nightmare finding items. Been to almost 20 stations/ports trying to buy better thrusters & never on sale at the time (used sites as guides).

Ah welp, at least the grind is almost ov.....oh, engineering :(

Try turning flight assist off, or hitting tab and turning when boosting. I usually do the latter for normal flight.

I do do (snicker) both of those. That's one thing it has going for it at least, it has plenty of boost & a lot of the time I'm waiting for the games CD to recover before I am for the boost to hehe.
