Combat practice probably best done by dropping into any old NAV beacon and scanning ships that spawn in to see if they are wanted and have a go at them. In normal NAV beacons the skill of the AI ships is average. As you step up in skill you'll want to find "Compromised NAV beacons", it will say the the name if it is a compromised one, I think EDDB.com will list these as well. In these nav beacons the AI skill level is considerably higher. You can also just drop into resource sites and go after pirates, but nav beacons are somewhat better IMO due to the lack of asteroids in the way.

Wouldn't say Resource Sites are that problematic from the Asteroids being in the way, in my experience they're really quite spaced out and it's rare to hit one unless deliberately flying close to them and a large amount of the fights are a good few KM above/below the ring anway!

Depends on the mission but for most Assassination missions you won't need a FSD Interdictor. Go to target sytem, scan Nav Beacon and a "Mission Target" entry will pop up in the Navigation panel (scroll right through). You'll also get a message and the mission will update in the Transactions tab showing which body in the system to head to.

You can then find the location and drop out of supercruise as you normally would for a station, USS etc.

If you don't get them 1st time round (say they low wake into supercruise) the Mission Target marker will move and you track it down again, as above from Navigation Panel.

To actually answer your question though, yes, you will need an FSD Interdictor to pull anything out of supercuise.

Thanks! I'll do a bit of reading/watching YouTube videos to get some more tips!

Did my first bit of deep core mining. Not played for a year. And missed the void rush lol.

One belt it was pitch black and smashed into a tour. Lol I lived. Made about 10 mill. I need more practice splitting the roofs.

Probably quite a good representation of reality then :)

Which is why No Man's Sky gets on my nerve despite really liking the game engine itself as every other planet has teeming life though just a variation on the last one .. oh and don't start me on the damn racket they make! Sometimes I want the easy planet landing of NMS for example just to speed things up a bit. Eve Online scares the willies out of me just contemplating starting an account.

Night vision perhaps :)

Equipping multiple Abrasion Blasters in close slots should still be giving more chunks from surface deposits.

<EDIT> Multi-AB is no longer working.

Well my 2nd go at void mining. I found some, in my Aspx made about 50mill. Not bad for my 2nd go. Only took me about 2 hiurh. Will soon have enough for a python and bigger cargo.

Anyone else getting weird artifacts in VR on the recent nVidia drivers? Since updating I've found that bright lights seem to pulse/flicker in VR (but look fine on the 2d screen) and all the menus when moving between selections the highlight box goes kinda wibbly... Rolled back to some older drivers and it's still doing it, annoyingly I'm not sure what driver I was on previously when it was working fine :(

Noted for reference not played for around 4 years

I've been trying to play today, took a mission this morning and just can't get the game to stay connected. It might be a steam issue because I've had one dropout in another game, but ED is every time I load it up...I've tried about 10 times today and it's been the same all day. Anyone had anything similar?

So....

Key-binds done
VA updated with the new binds...

Off i head into the unknown, well actually a pristine system for some mining.....

What have they done to this game, 3 different HUDS depending on what you are doing for starters, so your fingers are over the keyboard, how you your meant to play this in VR without VA is impossible i would imagine.

Mining has been transformed from being dull to extremely tedious, yes its a nice explosion after you have farted around with an asteroid for 5 mins, All your collector limpets get shredded by them being so dumb they do not a asteroid is in the way, or your cargo scoop is pointing up instead of down, as before the asteroid blowing up is very very cool, after 2 hrs of hunting glowing asteroids with a core the Elite tedium set in.

Not sure i like all this stupid HUD swapping, as for what else they have nerfed, broken i have no idea, but the game has so many keybinds now just picking it up after a break is going to put people off. 80% of this could be automated tbh, like having to deploy your landing gear in a space station.... what else are you going to do park it with the nose in the middle of the pad.

I agree the keybinds and hud needs some more love.

simple stuff like, IF a device is not usuable within a certain hud mode then remove those options from my fire groups OR automatically change hud modes.

I dont really like the multiple hud modes either. i suspect it is an attempt to try to make the game usable for the console folk who are limited to a gamepad but us PC folk should be able to have options available to make use of our more flexible gear.

that said, issues aside - and there are a lot at the moment - personally i thought mining seemed more interesting than before and also like the new planet scanning stuff in principle (if you have not tried those yet you may be raging there too!. it is totally different to how it was and in true Elite dangerous style the game does not really teach the new systems very well).

I imagine your bang on the money about the HUD swapping, just why would you though on a console....

But no not even tried the planet scanning stuff, and i must admit after 20mins of farting around i ended up on a youtube video on "how to mine" I wouldnt mind it so much but having to go around and shoot stuff off the broken asteroid is just grind play.

Keyboard and VR don't go. If you play in VR a HOTAS is a must imo with or without VA. Plenty of options for keybinds there.

Mining, I think totally the opposite. It was dull now it's more interesting, 3 different ways to extract what you need. Ship type and your positioning make a huge difference to limpet suicide and it's easy to pop the deposits whilst the collectors are doing their work.

Tip if you're doing core mining: go into a hot-spot in the shadow of the planet. You can see the cored asteroids so much easier. I will fill a Python with 128 void opals in less than an hour.

So Void opals are the current bling thing then i take it.

I can see ship type has an effect, i just went in with my old mining anaconda, instead of the mining corvette (yeah i know excessive :) ) just in case i blew myself up doing something stupid.

Even with a Hotas i still need a keyboard, should dabble in VR i have been avoiding the SOL system for that very reason of flying around in my home town :)

I use a Clipper to mine Opals but mine them now. Apparently the state that causes their inflated prices is happening more often than it is meant to.

The background simulation system is borked in general, I think they have acknowledged this to some extent. For one thing, the last time I checked there wasn't a *single* system in the entire galaxy that was in Famine state, which if you where looking for the engineering material that most often appears in USS in these systems, is a massive ball ache.
