*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

If anyone is looking for a game similar to Elite to play on the side, then check out Starsector. I am currently hooked on this. It is a top down 2D sprite game, but don't let that put you off, the graphics are gorgeous and detailed. The game is like a cross between Elite and Mount and Blade, building up your fleet from nothing, trading, smuggling, bounty hunting, exploring, the usual Elite type shenanigans, plus you ultimately get to colonise and develop your own planets and create your own faction, and then prepare yourself to take on the [REDACTED]. The game is still under development and there are tonnes of mods for it, including one which changes the game into a full on 4x faction war type effort, which is where I think the official game will eventually go when it is finished. There is no demo unfortunately, and not available on Steam or GoG etc, but it is a pretty cheap game anyway and well worth the money.

Interesting. In development since 2011 so it's definitely not being rushed out! It looks a bit 2005 in the graphics but I'm still intrigued by the idea of it.

Yeah, it's definitely been on the go for a while. Apparently a one man band developing it, or just a few guys at the most, but it seems to be a labour of love project for the dude. Seems to have a large cult following. It is still in Alpha, but there is an enjoyable game there already. I don't know if you remember The Pilot off of youtube, he was a popular Elite content creator, as they say, who streamed this for a while on Twitch a couple of years back, that's when I first came across it. He was into the exploration the game gives. I downloaded it at he beginning of this year but only just got round to playing it recently and for someone who has kind of Elite'ed himself out and can see Elite winding down, it is a breath of fresh air if you fancy a change. And its only $15.

not sure if you can see this route as well as me but

trying to jump on the neutron highway at

PSR J1752-2806

jumping to

Nova Aquila No 3

approx 350 ly

in my asp explorer than can do just over 48 ly

wont let me jump because mass exceeded by 5 tonne , so what's the answer ?

I love the X series. But I'm not sure it's those
If you wanted to make and end product. You either had to buy the raw materials induvially or build fabricators or factories then ship those products to the next factory etc.
I want to say it began with a D or M
Youd set a transport ship to go to various different factories to collect supplies and then return. I had hundreds running at once.

Arrgh

EDIT... Found the X3 forums... I think thats it.

I second this. If you liked SPAZ, you'd be a fool not to play this.

When this goes gold, it's going up there with the likes of Rimworld. And the dude making it seems incredibly talented. Even his blog posts are amazingly well written.

I started a thread a while back as it needs more exposure.

What a ballache this game can be , just trying to get the kit together for the guardian krait and the SRV drives me mad I forgot how much of a pain it is to use.

I love the srv controls. turn off the drive assist it makes it way better. also at guardian sites make sure your ship has at least 1 anti missile system to shoot the guardian weapons. (note I drive srv using Xbox pad may be different on kb/m)

Guardian weapons, You mean the little annoying flying things ? Easy enough to blast with the SRV (also use Xbox pad)

To be honest I have not been sensible going about it, instead of making a huge shopping list been doing it module by module.

At least it has changed that once you have unlocked it you do not need materials everytime.

Not even started on the engineer upgrades...this may take some time.

yeah I take out the guardian drones with my srv but iirc (it's been a good while since I was out there) one of the drones fires a special type of missile. it does little damage but it knocks your srv about summat rotten. I found it irritating but if you have a point defence module on your ship and it is landed close enough, it will shoot 90% of the missiles out of the air making life a lot simpler on the ground

like everything about my play in ED I have been incredibly inefficient about it as well. generally I am more than happy pootling about but I won't lie. it's a bit annoying when you have been that far out, fly back and realise you are still a few components short of what you need. I used to try to minimise my out of game tool and guide use but tbh I think I am done on that now.

Ahhh got ya, I have a spare annonconda kitted out for max jump range and justed it up it with SRV hangers and 64ton of storage for the gathering.

my guardian materials gatherer is a DB explorer. my logic it is I am unlikely to fight if doing that sort of thing and it is nice and small so can land it even over awkward terrain.
I have a stealth dB scout for my attempt at stealth against thargoids and taking samples from them... however it is fair to say I am rubbish at it and get blown up almost every time. definitely don't have the nack for that.

I need to do them, done most of the engineeer upgrades , no guardian stuff at all

I watched a video, he had his ship nearby with point defence turrets, which helped to defend me against missle attacks from the drones

Soon as there is a pause from the drone, put full power to sheilds which helps against their misile attacks

Just got back into the game after nearly a year off, and I am so happy to have a xeno hunting ground one jump away from Jameson. Makes it so much easier to tune builds when I can just hop over and swap modules, and makes it so much less hassle to swap what I'm doing when it doesn't involve a 500ly trip to my other ships.

I thought I'd set up a scout hunter build in a fed gunship but I'm sorta underwhelmed. Only being able to put 4 AX multis on it just makes it quite limited, and frankly synthing ammo for advanced multis on the large and 2 small hardpoints is not of great interest to me. I get why there's a limit, but it also kinda sucks.

Anyone got a recommendation for a scout hunter? Was considering using my t10, but it seems like I'd have the same issue. Presume seeker racks/packhounds don't do much to scouts?

Following a Anaconda build for one, Seems after about 2 years break I have 6 or 7 half engineered kitted out Anacondas in storage. Dont ask me why either.....

AX mulitcannons apparently are the thing for it as they move so fast, you can just be lazy.
