meta swing?

yeah the new UI is a mixed bag for sure. more clicks to do the same stuff is never a good thing but it looks a little less clutter. not being able to sort properly in the equipment storage and missing things. like that is criminal however
Sorry, I mean the popular ships for PvE. The FDL I've always avoided as it seems an easy way to progress towards Elite Combat. Then I bought a corvette and bought a FDL lol.

So, I found out that the colours on the missions mean the rating (ie Red is Wanted/high chance of bounty hunters). As with all frontier development the instruction manual is non-existent ! Thankfully we have a community and we all learn together

The UI sucks, same as all this multiple scanner nonsense the game has introduced its needs a complete overhaul especially as they are no longer/capable of supporting consoles as you say its very much a mess.

As for the game itself, completed and Anaconda scout killer and the Krait and killing Thargoids and if truth be told its a bit underwhelming & Tedious.

The good news was I right along when they first released the Thargoid content :) :)

So new plan is to park up the Thargoid stuff do the boring jumps back to Jameson in the Space Taxi ( I still have a beef that jumping distances is far short, tedious and slow) and finish off a FDL that was left in Limbo for some compromised Nav Beacon action. I know the FDL is not the best for PVE but it was my go to ship in all the better version of Elite that it is now :)

Said it before and i will say it again.

For the love of GOD Frontier, stop developing this game and give it to the MOD community all you need to do is organise and release the mods.

It’s on sale for £5 at the moment but it seems it’s not compatible with the Steam Deck :(

Tempted to get it anyway just to add to my library.

Same here, quite tempted. There are people playing it on YouTube without any problems, I've got a few games in the library that I am playing which aren't verified but play well.

Horizons is effectively the base game now. It was the previous DLC, but now anybody purchasing ED will get the Horizons version. Odyssey is the most recent DLC and is still an extra purchase.

As a new player what is best to play first, elite dangerous or elite dangerous horizons.

there is no elite dangerous base game now. horizons IS the base game and there are not quests as such so there is no order you need to play the content in . in a way Odyssey is a good place to start (which is an extra paid expansion, has a little more content but higher minimum system requirements) as iirc there is an option to start without even owning a ship

It definitely does run on a Steamdeck, both Horizons and Odyssey. I actually watched Yamiks live streaming Odyssey yesterday on youtube. Yamiks is a notoriously cynical ****ish Elite "content creator", who I normally avoid, but I was interested in seeing it on a deck. It seemed to run pretty good in everything apart from on foot combat, so flying ships and exploring on foot looks like it would be ok. All on low settings of course, but it didn't look that bad. Anyway, if you are buying the base Horizons game for a fiver it will run perfectly ok as is.

if odyssey was a fiver, id buy that, as i want to look at the on foot stuff

If you look up a few pages there was someone touting Odyssey on offer on CDKeys. Don't know if it still on sale, but if you don't mind risking it on a supposedly dodgy key site, then they have it for less than a tenner. I've only seen it as low as £16 on Steam sales in comparison. I went for it at that price on CDKeys and the key worked ok, had to link my originally separate Frontier account to my Steam account though to get the launcher to register it. If you bought Elite on Steam in the first place then I guess it would work straight away.

Edit: Oh, already answered above.

CDKeys is one of the better grey keysellers certainly less dodgy than G2A and kingguin . I have used them a few times. AFAIK they don't sell stolen keys but do sell region free keys originally from other regions.

compare that to G2A who I mistakenly thought were legit as were advertising on avforums.... I bought a copy of il2 from there and 6 months later had my key revoked from the developers as the key was stolen from them after a security breach of their network
