*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

there is no elite dangerous base game now. horizons IS the base game and there are not quests as such so there is no order you need to play the content in . in a way Odyssey is a good place to start (which is an extra paid expansion, has a little more content but higher minimum system requirements) as iirc there is an option to start without even owning a ship
You can still start plain ED (at least I still have separate options in the Frontier launcher for ED, ED: Horizons and ED: Odyssey). But, if I remember correctly, the ED option just launches the Horizons client with all planetary landings disabled.

But, I'd agree starting with plain ED is unnecssary - like you say there's no set order to play in and there's nothing in plain ED that you can't do in Horizons.

There would be advantages to starting with Odyssey, true - only needing to learn the new user interface for one. Depends on what price you can get both base game and DLC for, I guess.

interesting. i hadnt even noticed the original space only game was still an option. i stand corrected then :) TBH its a disjointed mess and it is only going to get worse in the coming weeks as Horizons 4.0 launches, which is horizons but in the new odyssey engine.

the old 3.8 Horizons will still remain, however players in 3.8 and 4.0 wont be able to play together, and players in 4.0 horizons wont be able to play with people in odyssey either - apparently due to different PEGI ratings of each game

so there will be Horizons 3.8, Horizons 4.0 and odyssey all separate from each other (as well as the original base game which i didnt know about)

You probably already know but the non-Horizons option in the launcher comes in handy for whenever you get your SRV irredeemably stuck somewhere on a planet, and instead of suiciding and losing the SRV, if you quite the game and reload in non-Horizons it plonks you back in space with your SRV back in the hold. Its about the only use the original game in the launcher has now.

lol

didn't know this, good to know !
Thanks

Recently bought EDO... definitely think its time to upgrade the GTX980

Managed to tweak the graphics settings so its decent enough but when mining you can see the square grid matrix used to render the asteroids.

Its good to back in the Corvette for the CG, got three pilots upto Elite now from Harmless costing me a small fortune. Not a bad life with supreme commander of the Banks Fleet.

Seems my mobius PVE group is dead though 18k members and never see anyone.

Just that I've never had a bay in my large shop to take another ship, so I've never hired a pilot, I didn't realise they can go up in rank
other than for fun (which is fine ) if you want to dabble you only need 1 pilot. As they take a cut of all profits regardless of if they are with you or not having more than one is an incredible extravagance and esp in the case of combat community goals will make your job much harder.

also imo when you hire one, if you plan on keeping him/her and not cutting lose once you are done with them........ make sure you hire them at harmless........ their pay goes up with their rank but they charge you significantly less the lower the rank you buy them at.

PS if you do not have the rank to get a FGS........ the krait is a good 1st Ship launched fighter capable ship.............. the keelback is a bit too rubbish imo.

i just need the rank now tbh

i think I've got enough to buy one now
i got a few ships, the Type 9 makes me the most money
I love my T9 as well....... she is called Fat Cow and she certainly is greedy and munches through trade CGs. a few hrs and i can usually get in the top 75% of any CG (enough usually to get the perks) and then 50% is not much sweat either.

thanks to a very nice FSD it even has a nice jump range (for a hauler with 750+ tons in at any rate).. does run hot when jumping mind you.......... but what is a bit of smoke and a fire alarm between friends.. i just pay the 10K ish repair bill each time i dock.
so long as you turn off flight assist once you drop out of supercruise it is even amazingly agile for such a big ship.

Hey whats your take on this game now? Improved or not? I spoke to you before i think, ive not logged in since 2017. Was a KS backer, i have all ships upto Anaconda and a Billion credits but not played for ages. I think i left when engineers came around first time.

Not tried the out of foot stuff yet.

But on this play period I decided to take a look at the Thargoid content i had all the engineers unlocked but it was still a fair amount of time running around to get plans and such. Very grindy but much much easier than before, my advice would be to unlock the engineers and focus on the FSD upgrades.

Thargoid content is quite hard and i found building the ships more fun than fighting them, might be fun in a wing i guess.
Still has all the faults from before though but less grindy.

Yes, but i am being super lazy and just hunting scouts in the Anaconda for ranking (after all these years I am still not Elite in combat think its about 80% ish) so just chasing that goal so kill a load of scouts get the 500k bounty and run like the coward i am before the interceptor turns up, jump out, clean the caustic off and jump back in. Nets me about 6million before I run out of ammo. Back to 2 Billion in credits now after the initial 500million kitting out the Anaconda and Krait AX ships, so money is not a issue really.

Those long T9 runs back in the day getting 80/90 million a run are make for a nice comfort zone.

This is new to my ears, interceptor?
So when you get to elite, this comes after you ?
