*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Yes, but i am being super lazy and just hunting scouts in the Anaconda for ranking (after all these years I am still not Elite in combat think its about 80% ish) so just chasing that goal so kill a load of scouts get the 500k bounty and run like the coward i am before the interceptor turns up, jump out, clean the caustic off and jump back in. Nets me about 6million before I run out of ammo. Back to 2 Billion in credits now after the initial 500million kitting out the Anaconda and Krait AX ships, so money is not a issue really.

Those long T9 runs back in the day getting 80/90 million a run are make for a nice comfort zone.
hi.

I don't have any ax builds and not got the time to go material hunting or anything. is there anything I can do in this CG with a chance of getting at least too 75% or is this really only for specialised builds?

thanks

You could try the scouts but your weapons will only do 75% damage so lets say a normal 10-20 second kill will take you a minute or so, i think you can buy some AX weapons from vendors without the requirement for engineering though.

As for the interceptor its a type of thargoid

Scouts (easy peasy)

Interceptor variants

Cyclops (Hard)
Basilisk (Harder)
Medusa Bring Friends
Hydra Bring Friends
Orthrus (Very Rare)

Yep, depends what ships you have, but if you have something with at least 3 large hardpoints, eg a krait, python, anaconda or type 10, you can stick turreted AX multicannons on there and a beam laser or two (for tagging ships too far away to kill so you still get the creds), then you can have a blast killing scouts.

Also recommend running a biweave shield with some boosters, and as many Hull reinforcement modules as you can fit (one module reinforcement too).

Good hunting!

Well its finally happened.

Elite in Combat :)

Been Elite in Trader for years, but thanks to some Thargoid Scout hunting its came along nicely, Damm sight easier than when I was 11 or 12 when the original came out, only managed Deadly back then i gave up.

Think i will finish off the Krait Thargoid intercept killer or maybe re-engineer my corvette to the new stuff.

My nephew would like to play ED so I've just ordered a copy for his PS4 for xmas.
Anyone here played on PS4 and is a joystick viable - something like the "Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4" for PS4?

just bear in mind the console version is no longer being actively developed and is not getting the newest expansion.

There is still a lot of content to play with in horizons, and it is worth a buy but just keep that in mind.... its essentially in maintanence mode.

I think when I first played Elite on my Atari ST I manged to get up to Deadly but in those days I was more focused about earning enough credits to buy every add-on and upgrade I could find and my combat ratting went as a consequence of playing the game. Games are too easy these days, I doubt the kids of today would have the patience to play the old Elite even if the graphics were all modern, back in the day knowing how to dock your ship manually was a skill in itself (albeit my first major purchase was always the docking computer lol) these days it's a keyboard shortcut.

So update 14 is going to bugger things up if you like dropping into Horizons version 3.8 to easily collect raw materials from crystal forest sites, as from that point on your 3.8 profile will be split from your 4.0 profile, so nothing you do on 3.8 will be duped into 4.0. Bit of a sod that, as I am not aware of any other easy raw material gathering methods in 4.0 cos of the new planet gen. Not that I play much these days, but I know it will now be a ball ache if I did need to farm that type of material.

On the other hand, from what I can gather from this separate profile, it means you effectively have a free second account if you want to go off exploring with the 3.8 account, whilst you main account stays in the bubble. But even then, if you find something interesting out in the black, you won't be able to log in with your 4.0 account to see what is looks like in Odyssey, and vica versa. Which now that I think about it, is actually even more of a bugger as some planets still look better in old gen if you do all your exploring in 4.0 anyway, and it is always nice to have the option. But now, not going to happen.

With the 14 update there is supposed to be some galaxy wide changes going on, probably related to the Thargoid/Stargoid anomalies and that. Any speculation as to what that might be? I am betting that these Stargoid things will end up being fixed points in space you can either fight around in space, or if you have Odyssey can land on/dock with to do on foot combat, or something along those lines. Or it could just all end up as another line of text in a GalNet article saying they all decided to give it up as a bad job and sod off back to Thargland, as you were.

I went ahead and bought ED for PS4 and the Thrustmaster joystick and, for purely testing purposes (honest 'guv), I gave them a go.
In a word... awesome!
The game detects the HOTAS and everything just worked.

Its a mess.

We should have only one version.... A utter utter mess and horizons needs to be switched off.
They need to revert to Horizons planet tech, re-instate full VR support and fix the abysmal performance in Odyssey first.

You are aware that the PS4 version is now dead in the water right? No updates for it other than critical fixes.

If it was a choice i'm pretty sure they would, they certainly wouldn't go through the trouble of redoing it all if they didn't need to.

A first person universe, Odyssey, is very different to what Horizons requires.

Yeh I know, it's wishful thinking and has been since day one but I can't help but be utterly disappointed in what they did, reading between the lines I think it was one of the main reasons that Dr K Ross left, the current planet tech is just so fake it absolutely destroyed what they had built with the Horizons tech and ruined the planetary exploration aspect for many players all so they could bolt on a poorly thought out grind fest to try and pull in some COD players, funny how the lead game designer has been completely absent since Odyssey launch after telling us all that the beta was a small vertical slice of what was coming, I wonder if he even still works for FD.

No disagreement that it is a mess. One that ultimately is down to whatever choices they made in the game engine to arrive at 4.0/Odyssey that either made it technically impossible or needing too much resource (=cost) to make it work on consoles.

My interpretation of this is that they are keeping 3.8 alive so they can keep selling it on consoles. So long as they keep running the 3.8 servers, I suppose that's not too bad, but they do need to make clear on those product pages that that verison of the game is "complete".

As I understand it, PC players will get the choice between Horizons 3.8 (labelled legacy) and "Live" Horizons 4.0 or Odyssey (if they've bought the latter).

Also as I understand it, instancing will be constrained within each option - so 3.8 players only instance with other 3.8 players (but cross-platform), horizons 4.0 players can only instance with horizons 4.0 players and Odyssey players instance with Odyssey players.

I'm not deep enough in to it to know who that is but things like ship interiors and all the game play that comes with was always going to be difficult, that stuff is difficult because of all the mind blowing voodoo crap you have to do with physics grids, a live character with its own mind doesn't like being on or inside something that moves in a way the engine can't predict, or i should really rephrase that with the engine hates it, you know what i mean.
Add to that ED uses load-screens to move between systems and even space to planet surface, what happens to all your mates that are running a mock in back of ship as you load in to a different instance? It doesn't work, you can't be instance loading at all. Now you have a scale problem, 32Bit positioning can only deal with about 100KM^2, you need millions if not billions.

Horizons looks a lot better, but i'm not that disappointed with Odessey, to me its a different game with its own benefits, but also has the feel of Horizons, which i like a lot.
