*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Yep - but this is a xmas present for my nephew, who doesn't have a PC powerful enough to play games, so he can just tootle around in offline mode on his PS4 and be very happy for a while :)
Thanks for pointing it out, though.
By offline do you mean in Solo? Because Legacy/3.8 is still online, just not connected to the 4.0 universe. So it will still be possible to encounter other players.

well, on the PC (as it stands) there is online play and offline play
im in horizons

dont know how the console versions work
There's no, strictly speaking, offline mode for ED on any platform.

Solo mode will stop you seeing other commanders in space, yes; but it is otherwise fully online. You still get the same BGS and what maybe relevant for @theukmoog nephew you still get local system chat.

I generally play in Solo too but if I go to a CG system, I'll still see what everybody else is saying in chat.

I don't know if the legacy/live split will also change that.

If the split makes the legacy version truly offline there will be a lot of anger thrown at FD for their continual insistence that an offline mode wasn't possible after they reneged on their Kickstarter promise of one. lmao.

when does the new update go live ? 29th November ?

i was going to login today, but no time, i want to try and login in in the morning

TUESDAY 29th NOVEMBER, UPDATE 14 RELEASE SCHEDULE (All times below in UTC)
  • 5:00 - In game broadcasting of 'server downtime warning'.
  • 7:00 - Both Horizons only and Odyssey Servers go down (update notes released via web and 'Release Tracker' style forum thread at around this time).
  • 15:00 - Servers return. Update 14 Deployment will be live.
DOWNLOAD SIZE INFORMATION (UPDATE 14 ONLY):
  • (3.8) Horizons Only Update 14 : 164.7 MB
  • (4.0) Odyssey Update 14 : 4.8 GB
Total combined update size : 4.9 GB (Updates combined only. ONLY if you have already installed the full 4.0 game client in advance).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have not installed a full download of the Odyssey (4.0) game client in advance of tomorrow's update 14 deployment, the client itself, minus the update 14 download size, is around the 50 GB mark. You may wish to do this prior to Update 14 release if you have yet to do so.

UPDATE NOTES:
Full update notes will be shared tomorrow, just ahead of or alongside server downtime.

Again, appreciate it's an early start for the UTC club BUT do watch out for the Release Tracker thread and update notes around 7:00. Pour a coffee.
Then pour another one.

i would love it if FD made legacy offline and allowed modders to fill their boots.... it is not gonna happen however. There is only 1 offline component to elite and that is the training missions...... all the rest of the game has to connect to servers regardless of whether legacy or live mode.

servers are down at the moment you can't play. Once they are back up keep in 4.0 and all your progress will count. anything in 3.8 legacy mode is locked into 3.8 and won't carry to 4.0 or odyssey

Ahhh here we go again I see, total incompetence from FD as per usual, launcher out of date > download the new version > install new launcher > launcher out of date > download new launcher > repeat, you would think by now they would have sorted that particular issue out, nope, expecting far too much of FD again... lol.

Don't forget to back up your keybindings! And any other customisations you don't want FDEV to mysteriously delete when you log in :D

The location may depend how you installed the game, but for reference mine (installed via Steam) are in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

Just managed to get to a rescue ship as I saw they were selling weapons against thargoids, are these good against regular ships as well?

You can have up to 4 experimental weapons, and I don't want to just get these if they only work against the goids.

cant find my key bindings ?
The filepath in my post wasn't my install directory, but the location of all the optional user-specific stuff like keybinds, graphics settings, etc. I only mentioned that I installed via Steam because I had no idea if other installers might set a different location for the user's config settings.

Did you check the equivalent location on your PC?
