They make fighting Thargoids 5% less tedious.

Honestly it was more fun doing the runs to engineer the krait than it is actually taking down Thargoids. It's horrible ill thought out mechanic that forces you down a way street.

Tomorrow i am probably going to embark on my first Gaudian site to get my self the Guass Cannons unlocked
as i want now build my 2nd anti-xeno ship, which is for Interceptors

let me know if anyone is interested, it would be quicker with more players id imagine
Once you hit the site, you can take off, leave the planet and drop back in again (or log out and log back in) , and scan the pillars that are around again. It allowed you to collect multiple scan patterns ( i think they are called obelisks) which are needed for manufacturing the blueprint and also any other components that you can shoot off the pillars etc. You only get the one blueprint fragment though, that does not respawn I believe.

Enjoy! The very first time can feel a bit "WTF am I doing?", but once you know where all the pillars are, and also the trigger points for the Guardian sentinels, then it's a walk in the park.

A couple of points which may or may not have been covered in the guides you watched:

1) Make sure you have materials to synth ammo for the SRV. You only need low-level mats, but you will definitely need to synth more ammo if you're doing multiple runs. Which you should be. See point 2.

2) Get as many blueprints as you can. It's a long flight, and while the basic Guardian weapons are standard unlocks (one blueprint + mats to unlock, then you can buy as many as you want for credits), the Salvation-enhanced weapons need a blueprint for every single weapon you buy. Most of the work is flying there and back, so make the most of it while you're there.

3) Figure out what weapons you may want to try, and how many of them you'll need, then use Inara to calculate what components you'll need. You don't want to come home a few Technology Components short of a full build

Thanks for that

i clearly had forgot a few things !
i need to make sure i write down a checklist of all the things i need to take with me first then !

wont be today then lol

Relogging does allow you to collect multiple blueprints at the same site, but you have to run the whole site again, i.e. power up all the pillars, deal with the sentinels, etc.

Well that's me done with Thargoid content... damm it's tedious and boring fights. The swarm is not fun and a pain, it's not difficult or engaging and the fact you only have one way of dealing with it is yet more Fdev pointless (unless you have a SLF going spare)

Thargoid content is only for the die hard at the end of the day and it seems FDEV are going down the line of even more specialist weaponry and internals to deal with it.

Just finding information for any of this is exercise in itself never mind where to buy it from.

Rant over.

The swarm is a profoundly tedious mechanism, and it is the main reason why I was never interested in Thargoid content before the recent storylines.

However! :D

The good news is that with all the stations and (even more fun) planetside ports under attack, you can get into AX fights without having to deal with the swarm at all, because the interceptors simply don't use it*. I've had a blast fighting them around planetary ports, with the added bonus that you can quickly dock for repairs between blowing up interceptors. And I can assure you I am very, very far from "die hard" when it comes to ED.

*I'm pretty sure the same "no swarm" rule applies to orbital stations under attack, but haven't done one of those myself so I can't be 100% sure.

How to find stations under attack?
  • If you care about helping the community effort, you can check AXI for the current highest priority systems: https://antixenoinitiative.com/watch
  • You can use https://dcoh.watch/systems to check the status of systems, and if you click on a system you'll see the status of the stations in that system - you want "Under attack". For example, right now AXI's highest priority system is Palottu, and checking DCoH for that system (https://dcoh.watch/system/3657198113474) I can see that Garret Arsenal is a planetary port under attack, so if I log in tonight, that's where I'm going
Yes, you do need AX-specific weapons. The newly-available AX multicannons are the best way for new folks to get started, if you don't want to do any Guardian unlocks, but they're mainly good against Scouts. Thargoids are end-game content, so you do need to put a bit of work in to get the best weapons for fighting the nastier ones :)

I killed my 1st thargoids last night and it was fun for me. didn't manage to kill an interceptor. got it down to 1 heart and was tempted to go for more but my ship was badly beaten up. going to go into open next time and do with other players. should be easy then esp as other players will share the attention of the ships.

if any one wants to help in the actual war effort rather than just blow stuff up and make money .... follow this thread

it's updated a few times a day with where best to concentrate attacks. also means more likely to get instanced with like minded players

I can't say i'm enjoying Elite anymore.

I've been away so long. And its quite daunting now.
I've got a number of ships Imperial Cutter, Python, Vulture DBX and a few of the smaller stepping stone ships.
I've only unlocked a few engineers.
But knowing where to start now has me stuck. Do I build an explorer. Point up and head out into the dark for a few weeks. Do i got back to Bounty hunting (which I really enjoyed but last i heard they nerfed that a few years back)
I was mining Diamonds back in the day for credits But it appears there is much easier way to farm credits now..
It a shame. Coz a 4090 and VR look stunning

it it hard to get back into but it's worth it.

aside from the stupid credit inflation and new generic style mmo currencies in the form of materials.... over all the game is better now

if you have odyssey the exobiology is quite satisfying for a few hrs a go and you don't need to go far out of the way to get 1st discoveries.

the thargoid hunting is a lot of fun but you do need special builds for that so don't try that yet!

personally the new planetary scanning which not perfect is much better than the old way as it is active rather than passive.

deep rock mining is also satisfying too.

explorer ships are about the cheapest in the game to build just remember to put a DSS, an auto maintanence unit on and you are good to go. personally I always have an SRV as well and if you have odyssey get the pioneer suit.

I just want a proper single player experience that I can mod the heck out of to my exact wants without being online.
If I want to tweak the power of my ship to silly heights, or make every other ship a Thargoid, then let me :)

then you picked the wrong game. elite is a live service game, for better or for worse.

i would love to see what modders could do with this game as well but it isnt gonna happen, at least until the game is shut down.

oolite may be more your thing if you want modded elite.......... but the flight model is a lot less engaging than elite dangerous imo.

I played Elite in the beta and loved it. It was a small star system and it had some nice trading routes. I loved it so much that I spent a fortune on HOTAS kit and VR systems.
Then the grind kicked in. I dropped out.

On a separate note: I bought the DLC that gave us the first person gameplay. Does that have much fun stuff to do?

all o can say about odyssey is...... try it and see. lots of people enjoy the 1st person combat. because it isn't in proper VR it does not really interest me to be honest.

I have done some of the exo biology on foot stuff (scanning plants on planets) - also not in VR but it's short bursts on foot so I don't mind so much.

I would say over all the expansion is ok... one to buy in a sale. for the most part what I do could still be done in the base game (horizons). I am loving the thargoid war

I don't really understand what's daunting here. There isn't a "right" and a "wrong" thing to do, so do what you enjoy - that's different for everyone.

Want to explore? Go exploring!
Want to do bounty hunting? Do that! It's definitely not nerfed, BTW, not that it matters - you can make very good money off pirate massacre missions, and decent money just pestering pirates in the nearest Haz-res.
Enjoy mining? Off you go! Laser mining Platinum is more profitable than core mining these days, but core mining may be more fun.
Want to farm credits? Ask yourself why! What do you have in mind that you need a boatload of credits for, that would make you play the game in a way you don't otherwise enjoy?

The only thing you need loads of credits for is a Fleet Carrier, and they are definitely a nice to have, not a must-have. Engineering doesn't really cost credits, only time, and you've already got the most expensive ship in the game. Don't let having choices stop you from making one - you can always just stop and do something else if you don't enjoy it.

update 14.02 is dropping TODAY

UPDATE 14.02 DELAYED.

On Friday last week we announced a delay to the deployment of our announced Update 14.02 for Elite Dangerous Odyssey.

We apologise for disappointment this will cause to those patiently waiting in anticipation of it's release and endeavor to provide details on the revised release date as soon as we can.

As part of last Thursday's livestream, Senior Designer Derin shared some of the exciting elements coming along with Update 14.02 which we'd like to recap for you here:

Update 14.02 | Quality of life improvements:

  • There is a new UI element incoming for the ‘Thargoid War’ section of the Galaxy Map.
    • This will list systems where CMDRS can be of help.
      • These are the top five systems by progress for each system state.
Salvage Activities will now contribute to the Thargoid War:

  • The following items will be able to be salvaged from systems and handed into megaships in order to contribute to the efforts of the collection system:
    • Black Boxes
    • Escape Pods
    • Thargoid Tissue Samples
Recovery Systems:

  • Rebooting Odyssey settlements hasten the recovery time of a system.
  • Rebooting all settlements will decrease the automated recovery time by a week.
  • Repairing all markets in a system will still result in the system completing the recovery state and exiting entirely the next week.
  • The bar is more representative of when further action not needed and will show at 100% when automated progress will bring it to 100% at the end of the week.
Thargoid Frontline:

  • Update 14.02 will bring new content in 'Frontline TG Controlled Systems'.
    • This covers a ‘shell’ of systems on the frontline of Thargoid territory bordering humanity.
    • In these systems, CMDRs will find AXConflict Zones and Thargoid USS

14.02 Issues Addressed:

It's not only quality of life improvements to features pending as part of Update 14.02, but as promised we will be addressing a number of key issues for Commanders as part of the deployment.

Further specified information on these confirmed fixes will be released as part of the final Update Notes, prior to the deployment going live.

---

Once again, we apologise for the announced delay of 14.02 but the team are working hard to ensure you're all met with the best quality update on release.

Thank you so much for standing by o7

A NEW, IMPROVED XENO SCANNER HAS BECOME AVAILABLE!

Another announcement last week was the release of a new Xeno Scanner available for credit purchase, to assist combat vessels engaged in conflict operations, boasting a range extension!
