I did a 'road to riches' mini loop last night. Took me 2 hours to make 14 mil. Still feels a little slow but perhaps a few factors:
1. I couldn't work out the FSS but have since YouTube'd it. I just honked and DSS the main planets. Not sure how much extra I would have got.
2. Current ship has 19 ly jump. Might spend to get a DBX for circa 30 ly? Or should I save some more.
3. I've got a hand on fuel scooping now. Though the max uptake speed I could get was 70ish. Maybe I should invest in a better component? Worth it?
4. I didn't come across any planets for exo-biology. Is there a trick to this? I know they need an atmosphere , half crescent to land but how do you even find some in the first place? FSS random systems and look up the make up of such planets?
1. I didn't get the FSS straight away either. When it comes to system exploration the more you do the more you get, although the return varies. I generally target completing the planets in the FSS (so you get the "System scan complete" message), then DSS Earth-like worlds, terraformable, water worlds, High Metal Content/Metal Rich planets and maybe some others depending on travel time to get to them. Once you've done the FSS, using the Orrery view in the system map can help plot a route around the system to get to the planets you want to DSS.
2. Have you already upgraded the frameshift drive in the ship you have to an A-rated one? It's not necessarily worth A-rating every component, but the frameshift is generally worthwhile.
3. Yep upgrade it, but only to keep the amount of time spent just circling the star to a minimum. Don't forget to pay attention to the star types that are scoopable (KGBFOAM) vs those that aren't when planning a route. And in case you haven't already heard of them, if you do manage to run out of fuel, contact the Fuel Rats.
4. I've not done exo-biology myself yet, so don't have any experience of planets that are more or less likely to have plants. The basic mechanics, as I understand them go like this: You should DSS a planet to find out what types of plants are present (if any). If there are, then the blue overlay will then show where plants
might be present (it's
not a heatmap - any variations in colour are just due to the underlying terrain, but some types of plant can only be found on certain terrain). If there's more than one type of plant, you can cycle through them while in the DSS screen, and the overlay will then be restricted to just those plants.
