I just did 270 without a station! :D
You just have to keep an eye on your fuel level, and whether the stars you're going to be visiting are suitable for scooping.
Totally - brown stars are my nemesis! Discovered you can filter by scoopable stars (star class) ;)

Are you guys keeping fleets then? I've been part exchanging my old ships to get into a nicer one sooner. :D
Short-term, as the smaller ships are cheap to specialise (and respec) - python and up, definitely not - they'll fit a role.

well, after reading more about the Keeler
maybe not the best option ..

Can you fly the fighter? Would make an interesting explorer ship...or are you more focused on transporting volume?

Popped back to the bubble as couldn't find a dolphin in deep space - cobra had lower point defence mount points which didn't help with the sentinel barrage, but FSS scanning saves the day :)

You're back in the bubble now, but someone else may benefit if ever get into the same situation. You could have invited another player to multicrew, and let them take over the helm.
You would be on the ground in an SRV. They would fly above you, this way PDT would work in down position.

Honestly I wouldn't. I'd get the Keelback and then just plump for a type 7 (hate all you want, it is surprisingly maneuverable for a large pad ship and I liked it!) or a python later. It doesn't take much mining to get a lot of cash put away and for cargo runs you could do a lot better than a t6. Do a few runs in the Keelback and you could buy a type 9!

Type 7 is like 70 million, going to get around 90 million, before i buy one of those.

I need to learn mining, i know its more lucrative than cargo hauling

and its a bigger cargo space than the cobra anyway, but shields aren't as good (Vs Cobra)

I never even thought of that :D
Made a few more million on the way back to the bubble at least

Oh my bad, been a while since I had one and had it in my head it was cheaper than that! I think if you get started with the Keelback you'll have that in no time though. The type 7 isn't amazing for mining due to the 4 small hardpoints (you really want mediums) but it's a fun little box. You may as well skip to the Python instead and keep the medium pad access and it has a great power distributor and you can refit for combat. If you mine for a bit you'll have plenty of dosh in no time so then you can go for the big ships for longer mining sessions and be hauling 150m credits in a single run

:D

ill google it, just to be sure

i think ill get a keelback and learn mining, then get a Type 7-Tranporter for cargo
Good call. Depending on your results with the Keelback, you could skip it and go to a type 9, but I had fun in my brief stint in the t7. It's very much a stepping stone ship and one that you won't come back to, but for hauling goods on the cheap it is a great little ship.

well ive tried the keelback and there not enough optional space to put a refinery , I also had to take off my shield

not sure what ive done wrong, but communicating with @Ravenger over comms saying what i needed, and there's just not enough room !!

cant remember off the top of my head buy i know i have collector limpets and Prospector Limpets added

i need to do some more learning and googling more

If you drop shields, you can add collector controller and increase collectors up to 6.
I have no idea if it is needed though, afaik power distributor is very weak here.
Also depending where you would go, you might be forced to drop it for fuel scoop.
Make sure you use multi controller for collection only, this is C grade, doesn't make a good prospector.
You can equip only one multi controller at any given time.
Please pay attention to power priorities, FSD will get disabled once you deploy your hardpoints, I think it takes 10 seconds to boot after retracting hardpoints - this is important in case you were being attacked.
You can go core mining (would need different setup), but it is far more difficult.

thanks for that

I've seen a few builds this morning, very similar, but I'm liking this one

i did a run last night (1st run with mate who had the refinery) Deep core , and i went back to station with like 40T of cargo of Minerals and i made millions, so ill be getting bigger ship in no time !

what's the next ship to go for? (for mining) so i know what to save up for :)

excellent help as always mate, much appreciated

Thanks

Your next big step would be Python. But I wouldn't advocate to go for it at all cost as soon as possible.
Opposite. Get yourself an exploration ship, DBX or AspX for example.
It's better to have a dedicated ship for a task, swapping modules is tedious.
A bit of exploration here and there, maybe some light cargo hauling, don't close yourself in a single game loop.
You can lay your hands on a fully engineered long range class 5 FSD - it will fit both DBX and AspX. Your future target - Python also uses class 5 FSD.
This module can be unlocked and acquired at a human tech broker - but you don't pay for it with credits, you do that with resources.
With exploration oriented vessel it will be easier to gather these resources.
I am suggesting alternating gameplays, feel like mining - do that, another time go sightseeing, or just go after materials for FSD module.

Should you decide to just mine your way towards a bigger ship - AspX is a decent stop on your quest for Python.
Can be outfitted for all mining methods at once - surface, subsurface and core, you're looking at around 20 millions to get a ship and modules.
Once you earn enough money to get and outfit a Python (80-100 millions), keep the AspX for exploring.

thanks very much :)

oh yeah , i intend to keep ships for specific tasks, i certainly don't want to keep swapping modules, besides it costs money to bring them out of storage (as I found out last night)

so far, i intend to keep my Cobra MK3 purely for combat duties
Keelback once mining is underway and ive saved up for another ship of interest, i might keep this as a second combat fighter ship as a back-up as its highly manurable

i need to get my head around what ships good for what, Python sounds like a good option after the keelback

On a mining ship I would have something like that:
Group 1: primary - DSS, secondary - discovery scanner
Group 2: primary - all mining lasers, all collector controllers, secondary - prospector controller
Group 3: primary - seismic charge, secondary - abrasion blaster
Group 4: primary - subsurface displacement missile, secondary - pulse wave analyser

This is for a ship that has enough hard points.
A keelback for laser mining would only have groups 1 and 2.

im learning quite well now

i know how to scan surface, then goto hotspot in rings
switch to night vision, scan asteroids, look for the ones i want, and get close enough to fire lasers etc etc

the galactic average is sometimes way off in my system, im selling Indite at over 13,000 a ton , Gallite over 13,000 a ton too
