The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Do you play Eve though?
Between 2001 (beta) and 2013 counts? And by "playing" EVE it wasn't as simple as any other game and you know it.
Especially those of us involved on the political process running military and diplomatic operations*, spending most of our game time in IRC and voice chatting err scheming in some sense. (or preparing for war).

*First on PA (Phoenix Alliance) , and later with BoB (Evol) during that period, among other things later on. And you know well that for someone who fought vigorously BoB for the best part of a decade, joinin "the dark side" count for something. :) And no I wasn't a traitor.

Not having logged in for a few years I discovered my accounts were suspended and when i got them back some scum <expletive deleted> had sold all my stuff, including my beloved Machariel, and taken the isk. Fortunately the GM who sorted all this out for me transferred 8 billion isk to my account so at least I'm not skint.

I created a new character to have a go at faction warfare so just skilling up doing some missions. I'd love to get the bug again for EVE as it's the mmo I've spent most time playing but I struggle with any mmo nowadays, I just guess the older I've got the less time I want to spend playing mmo's.

That's the good thing about Eve, you skill 24/7. Just keep subs going and have a break. You'll come back when you're ready :)

It was a pretty boring video by R&K's standard - largely a slideshow of events most people won't care about with a couple of mildly pretty sections of combat that didn't really show any meat.

Not like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMFahR4wXTg for instance that really gets into the guts of the fight albeit one that is largely in R&Ks favour.

I was disappointed. Previous R&K videos have set such a high bar. I was really excited to see what new tactics they have developed and then it was all a bit 'Meh!' :(

Mythos is always recruiting ;)

Dunno didn't even watch it.

Been playing again for a few weeks and actually subbed as I’m enjoying it EVE again. I sold my capital/covert ops alt as I won’t run 2 accounts any more so flush with isk.

Learning the game again is fun and just getting into relic and data sites, just doing them in high spec till I’m comfortable but just got popped by some Serpentis sods as I didn’t know rats could pop in high spec sites. Lesson learned so now I am looking for a more combat orientated covert ops probing ship.

Yeah some sites called ghost sites, contested covert ops sites have npcs in them. The ghost sites have npcs that warp in after a period of time so you have to be quick to hack the cans but then they leave and the cans blow up doing damage to ships,
the npcs and explosion can be tanked, smaller ships like a cov ops frigate won't tank it really. Exploration is done really well in eve imo

Dev blog: Black Desert Online makers Pearl Abyss to acquire CCP!

I never thought CCP would sell up - initial statements from CCP suggest they'll continue to be independent however I wonder what this will mean for the future of the game?

Still kinda happy I've kept the main account subbed despite not playing since 2014 - it's probably about 14 years old now :p

The official statement says they were owned by three big investors who sold up to make their money, so they would have moved on and had other investors come in at some point anyway. At least CCP will be owned by another MMO game developer now, instead of just investors looking for a payoff.

Can only hope there's no push to move beyond cosmetics! Though I'm pretty sure Pearl Abyss have a fair understanding of the Eve playerbase and their relationship with CCP following highly publicized events like Monaclegate and Walking in Stations

Anyway, fingers crossed it all works out well for CCP and even more so Eve-Online - it's a pretty special game at the end of the day and I don't think there's anything else quite like it :)

Is it worth playing this again? I played for about 10 years.. haven;t played for a while and always get an itch to go back or is it a case of shifting the accounts and forgetting about it?

Depends what you are looking for from the game - the game is very different and a lot more fleshed out than it was before 2009. On the other hand I can't recommend it for anyone who isn't prepared to chase short term gameplay which is kind of silly with the length of time it takes to skill up, etc. (unless you pay for boosters) - or doesn't mind constantly adapting long term goals to any kind of arbitrary change the developers might decide to go with any one week to the next.

I;ve got 2 or 3 100 mill plus accounts so skilling isn't an issue

Not having played in over 5 years I’m back and enjoying it. Did a Serpentis Phi-Outpost the other day and looted a Corelum C-Type 50mn Microwarpdrive and a Vigilant bpc for which I just happened to have the minerals for. I’ll look for a null space Corp soon.
